Triple-distilled shallac. Top notes hit high-Z effortlessly, as my chattering teeth can attest. Useful as a negative stimulus for obedience training of dogs.

Once dry down occurs, wearing Ginger Musk is like doing découpage with someone chewing bubblegum.

Caveat emptor. Not for use on skin.

Neither/nor eccentric combination!

I've now worn Montale GINGER MUSK a few times, thanks to this house's generous-sized samples, which make it possible to seriously experience a perfume before buying. Good work Pierre or reasonable facsimile...

GINGER MUSK is an odd creation, really very eccentric. It's working against some fairly well-established expectations, so I'm not surprised at its middling ratings and reception. On the one hand, people looking for a musk perfume are usually looking for something on the skanky side: musk, at its heart, even when imitated synthetically (as it is today), is an animalic note. On the other hand, ginger nearly always appears in aromatic colognes.

What GINGER MUSK does is to combine a hefty dose of musk with a sweet, culinary, baking-type ginger note. This is not fresh ginger, it's more like a ginger syrup, or perhaps a light gingerbread. Mixed in with the musk, it doesn't quite cut it as a gourmand, and the sweetness makes it not seem like a true musk composition either. In order to appreciate and wear GINGER MUSK, it seems that one must be of a contradictory nature, loving both gourmand, sweet compositions, and musky, animalic, sensual ones--and at the same time!

This combination does not quite work for me, but I enjoyed the experience and do recommend this perfume for testing, because it is well made and you're unlikely to encounter anything else quite like it!

A fragrance that divides the crowd...

After my first Montale samples were tested and all felt good, I looked what there is still so.
That's when I discovered Ginger Musk. I love ginger! There is hardly a nicer scent than cutting open a ginger root and smelling the fresh cut.
With that association, I ordered my sample.
Hardly arrived, I also put it on immediately and was thrilled!
The medical-synthetic Montale DNA is here again stronger in the upbeat than, for example, Day Dreams but not as strong as in Sensual Instinct.
But immediately accompanied by the fishy ginger and complemented by the wonderful musk.
My husband was immediately mega enthusiastic and also tested the fragrance itself.
The further course is creamy and balanced to velvety sweet, but always with the ginger note underpinned.
For me, all components are perfectly matched while very special and for me so far unique. I know so far no comparable so well coordinated ginger fragrance.
The fragrance is not restrained here. He screams formally, here I am and I also stay!
That's probably why it's so polarizing. I think there are only two options, either you love it or you hate it. I can't imagine anyone saying "yeah it's ok, you can do it sometime". He's just too special for that.
So you have to love it if you like putting it on, because the longevity is insane. You smell him loose still the next morning when you wake up and on your clothes for days.
The silage is long lasting but not so overpowering that you would bother others.
Unisex is the fragrance in any case.
I immediately ordered the bottle and am thrilled every time.
