After a few months, I'm finally tackling a review again. One that is particularly special to me, as the fragrance contains a note and DNA that did not correspond at all to my previous search profile and rather required a certain distance.
It's once again about my note of fear: The rose…
With "Xandria | Ormonde Jayne," I'm daring to try a rose-oud again, which is built in the tradition of "Oud Stars - Alexandria II (Parfum) | XerJoff." The comments and statements made me very curious, and so I overcame myself and indulged in a bit of this rose. What happened next left me speechless and convinced me to give the rose a chance in some forms.
Xandria is for me the mature and noble Alexandria 2!
For years, I held the belief: “Rose-oud does not do me good.”
So I largely refrained from this combination. Alex 2 was already too cloying, too constricted, and above all too much. Simply a fragrance that blocked my nose and did not show much of the elegance I expected.
Noir de Noir Eau de Parfum managed this much better. The fact that I dared to approach this DNA again is simply due to my increased engagement with the house of Ormonde Jayne.
What can one expect from Xandria?
Yes, it is a reference to Alex 2, but much softer, much airier, and not so uncompromisingly developed for performance without sacrificing it. Other notes are given more space to develop. The rose is more of a catalyst for a DNA that has more to offer than rose-oud.
Xandria does not skimp on the rose and oud, but underlines it with a soft powderiness that feels like a soft pillow on the skin. This creates something much nobler and more pleasant for my nose. The wood is not trimmed to pure darkness, but rather lighter and brighter, intertwined with a spiciness. The rose is situated more in a fresh and growing form, rather than in its dying and cloying state. This is likely due to the use of rosewood, resulting in a somewhat less floral idea in the fragrance.
Each note hits a point that simply feels more valuable.
New in this type of fragrance was the remnants of rum that still cling to the barrel, provoking a certain lightness. A hint of cinnamon to make the wood happier and above all earthy notes that make the powderiness feel deeper. A dream for the nose and especially for my rose-plagued nose.
Anyone looking for a softer and more sensual version of Alex 2 will definitely find it here. If even my nose is being seduced…
