Hello again, my sniffing fans :)
Well, where did you put your noses today? :D
Anyway, I come now with a very high-quality luxury fragrance, Roja, who is known to offer fragrances that are more expensive than cars. Well well, the smell of Roja, which costs 3000 Euro, was at least more expensive than my first car. And also more expensive than my second car. Actually much more expensive than both cars together (Peugeot 105 and Fiat Cinquecento), argh :DD
Well, today I come to a comparatively much more affordable fragrance of this brand, which costs on average "only" 450 Euro (for 50 mL): Elixir.
At this point I would have to pull myself together now, because a freak and nerd like me only have to think of life elixirs, which are needed especially in video games, if you were unable to play well and lost a lot of life energy :D I could tell you stories here, but which will interest pretty much nobody... *sigh*
But I'm not that wrong with my thoughts now either. For according to Greek mythology, an elixir is indeed a "potion of life", which is supposed to confer immortality, so to speak. Here at Roja it is therefore also a matter of preserving certain memories forever with the help of scents. After all, fragrances are said to wake up or recall certain memories in you, among other things. Things you may not have thought of for years or decades suddenly come back with the perception of a certain scent or fragrance composition and you indulge in memories. And that's true, because it's also the case with me that certain scents (but not always certain perfumes) remind me of things, for example, from far back in my childhood. That in itself is something beautiful, because such things, which had not been thought of for ages, have not been lost.
And that is exactly the theme of this fragrance here.
The fragrance:
I smell raspberries at first, which smell sweet and fruity, then light and soft powdery notes (probably from the violets) and some ylang-ylang, which makes the initially youthful character of the fragrance more mature. A little later, sweet lilies of the valley are added, as well as roses, which underline the feminine aura of the fragrance.
A little later, the fragrance remains soft due to the mix of soft scents such as violets and vanilla. As a result, the ylang-ylang fades into the background or is attenuated, so that the fragrance doesn't smell so sultry and heavy despite these heavy flowers.
By the way, you can still smell roses very clearly later on, as they are becoming more and more the main fragrance here.
So... honestly, the scent doesn't get much different as it goes on. It remains powdery and soft, smelling of sweet, flowery scents like violets with a little vanilla and in the background there is always some ylang-ylang. Only the roses become considerably weaker towards the end. And that's it, then.
The Sillage and the shelf life:
The Sillage is quite good at first, but soon you would have to get a little closer to smell the scent in others. The shelf life for a Roja is less than expected, so that the fragrance already lasts eight hours, but at least half of this time radiates quite weakly.
The bottle:
The bottle is rectangular and feels very high quality as always. It has a gold-plated label on the front, which is said to contain genuine gold elements. On the gold-plated neck you can see the engraved signature of Roja. The massive lid is also made of real gold elements and was made by hand, because the many Swarovski stones are used by hand. In this bottle all stones are white or glassy. All in all, it is a beautiful bottle that also sprays a very fine mist.
Soo... despite my title, which is actually a prize for the worst films and actors and which is awarded every year like the Oscars, this fragrance is of course not bad. My title therefore alludes more to the golden elements of the bottle, which are trademarks of Roja, and to the fragrance of raspberry, which is the first fragrance you can smell here.
As I said, the fragrance is quite nice, feminine and beautiful. You may already suspect it, but now comes my "but": It's the case that the scent doesn't smell that special to me personally. It may be beautiful, but it's not exceptionally beautiful. It's beautiful, but there are more beautiful scents. Sure, it has no perceptible synthetic, as is the case with every Roja fragrance, but I don't think the fragrance smells much better than similar (rose) fragrances, as you can find them everywhere, no matter if Chloé or something else. In short, despite its nice scent, Elixir is not worth 400-450 Euro to me!
Well, otherwise it's a spring and autumn scent, because it's neither too light nor too heavy. One could use it as a carefree day fragrance. So you can test it, but you won't miss a thing if you leave it out.
That's it again. All have a nice evening, until then :)
