First Impressions -- Nice but feels safe
I am reviewing this based on it's inclusion in the Roja Women's sample pack and this is more or less a first impressions review.
Firstly, Roja Danger is very clearly a well blended scent -- it's round and it does take the wearer on a journey throughout the day though, spoiler, the start of that journey is the best part. The opening of Danger is really wonderful and I get cloves, musk and fresh citrus right away, distantly there is a bit of spice from the patchouli in the base. The opening is driving into the sunset on a warm autumn afternoon. The cloves really are a delight and the musk note is my type of musk. Clean but a little flirty yet not overly animalic or dirty.
Unfortunately, about an hour into wear Danger takes a hard left turn into straight up baby wipes. I usually like powdery scents but this was overwhelming powded. I always test with a light hand and did only a spritz and I still felt like I was inhaling baby powder. Gone was all of the earlier warmth. I nearly considered scrubbing it but for the sake of testing, stuck it out.
Thankfully the baby powder bomb is temporary and around the 3 hour mark it settles down into a pleasant, soft, if somewhat nondescript vanilla. It's in this cozy vanilla state that it stays as a skin scent for about 7 hours.
If I compare Danger to Roja 51 from the same sample pack, I feel like this is the fall/winter sister to 51. They share the same rough skeleton but 51 is lighter, brighter and fresher whereas Danger is definitely more robust. However, in this instance I think 51 would be more worth the money. From the fantastic opening, disappointing mid and generic base, Danger left me with an overall "safe" feeling that has me a little disappointed. It was nice, but I don't think I would buy a full bottle, certainly not for the price.
