Oud, leather, and skin
Pastel Oud is mainly an oud and leather scent. In the opening, spices and very subtle fruity notes can be discerned, but they quickly make way for an oud accord that is very clean, woody, and almost like a "skin" scent. Not a scent that stays close to the skin necessarily, but a scent that smells like someone's skin. Soft suede leather comes through; it is not rough, smelling like a leather handbag or a new car, but rather shores up the spiciness and oud with an enveloping muted embrace. There is also a kind of sharp sweetness like maltol that doesn't allow the fragrance to get too dry, and is actually blended quite well. The drydown is musky wood, and lasts for a very long time.
Since this fragrance was added to the database it seems they have removed the clove, lavender, and moss from the TMoV website, which makes sense: those notes imply a kind of fougere-y quality that is not present at all in this fragrance.
It just seems really familiar but I can't put my finger on it. It has kind of the same qualities in the oud as Promise Parfum, the leather is similar to that of Aqua Regia, so the result should be somewhat similar to Deified Tony Iommi but Deified is a lot sweeter/fruitier. I'm also remembering Oud Eau de Parfum being a bit similar to this. I haven't tried Oud Maracujá but that is the only one it has been compared to on Fragrantica, and they share the same perfumer as well. But none of these have that "skin" scent I'm getting from Pastel Oud.
It is really a fantastic fragrance, a unique "niche"-y smell that manages to be actually quite mass-appealing in my opinion, along with projection and great lasting power. The only reason Pastel Oud doesn't get a perfect score from me is that there are some aromachemicals that give it a bit of an unnatural vibe (perhaps ambrocenide? and also the maltol) but they do give it great performance. I would take a bit less longevity/sillage in exchange for something that smells a bit more naturally woody, though.
