Pepper dream that is unfortunately a long time coming
The back story:
I was once again looking for a spring and summer fragrance to add to my collection. The question quickly arises: what else do I need and where can I get it? The answer: Quite simply Memo Paris. Actually my favorite brand when it comes to special and more special perfumes. Of course, I went back to my browser and finally landed on the Memo page. I had already thought about which direction the fragrance should take and which Memo collection it should come from. After some thought, I came to the conclusion that this time I didn't want anything with leather, but also not so much in a floral direction. Of course, that leaves only one collection, namely "Graines Vagabondes", which has already more than convinced me in the past with unusual notes such as "Winter Palace", "Flam" and "Tamarindo". When I looked at my wish list for the collection, I immediately noticed "Cappadocia" and "Ithaque". Short and sweet: In the end, it was "Ithaque" (otherwise I wouldn't be here) because of the softer and greener notes that piqued my interest (and of course because of the beautiful artwork, but more on that in a moment).
The bottle:
If you first look at the bottle, you can see the typical Memo 4-cornered glass bottle with the golden cap. True to the "Graines Vagabondes" collection, the glass is again a bright white (in contrast to the black glass of the brothers from the "Cuirs Nomades" aka leather collection). The flat artwork typical of Memo and the respective perfume is again printed on the front. I personally think that this artwork is one of the most beautiful that the house of Memo has to offer. In the foreground you can see a small settlement and 3 of its inhabitants in an idyllic setting surrounded by olive leaves and trees stretching into the background. The sky is very clear except for a few clouds and immediately gives you the feeling of spring. All in all, this simple but at the same time beautiful artwork immediately evokes in my mind the idea of a simple but very beautiful life in ancient times on the small but beautiful Greek island of Ithaca.
The fragrance:
Now to the fragrance.....and that actually hurts my soul a little after I praised the bottle so much and was really looking forward to the fragrance. In a nutshell: I was expecting a little bit more. Don't get me wrong, the fragrance is very good, but it doesn't really blow me away like some of the other fragrances Memo has released in the past. It may be complaining on a high level, as I already know many other fragrances from Memo but well, a few details: The fragrance starts very very green when you spray it on (but a brighter and friendlier green than e.g. "Irish Leather") and you immediately notice the juniper and currant. These also remain the most present for most of the time. After a while, slightly fruity notes of bitter orange and mandarin are added, whereas the raspberry is less noticeable. However, these fragrance notes remain and now comes the reason why I am a little disappointed. The pepper is missing! I know it sounds simple and after reading some reviews, opinion is a bit divided. Some notice it, others don't. I belong to the faction that doesn't notice it and that's where the problem lies. Personally, the fragrance is a bit TOO green for me and has no note that makes it really special or makes it stand out more. A pepper note, which you could perceive a little more strongly, would have done this fragrance a lot of good in my opinion.
The durability:
Now to the durability. I don't think there's too much special to say here. The fragrance lasts a good 6-7 hours, sometimes a little longer for me (depending on the day).
The sillage:
Again, simple and rather basic. The sillage is good and also perceptible, but not too intrusive or penetrating, unless you are really not a fan of the nature of spring.
Résumé:
A very beautiful, but also simple fragrance which is definitely suitable for sunny spring but also summer days. It reflects the blossoming of green nature with a strong berry note, which remains the most present throughout. Personally, I think that the fragrance is actually suitable for both sexes, but I tend to say that it would suit a woman rather than a man. If you are looking for a nice and not too sophisticated perfume for these seasons, you will definitely find it here. However, if you are looking for something very sophisticated and particularly outstanding, you will probably be a little disappointed.
