Why is that fragrance so popular?

Reflection 45 smells like corn tortillas to me. I’m sure it’s just my nose, but I couldn’t stand wearing it.

Allure Homme Sport Eau Extrême - I never understood the hype. I find it too sharp and annoying to wear. I much prefer all the other flankers.

Sedley and Greenley - I have tried these multiple times. They just seem very generic to me, like something you would find at Bath and Body Works.

I recently tried L'Eau Papier Eau de Toilette after reading and hearing so many great reviews. It's not bad, but for me, it was "meh". I feel like I'd have been more impressed if I already didn't have some beautiful musk scents I wear regularly, but this didn't seem all that special or nuanced on me. I like many Diptyque fragrances and I was expecting to like this one more than I did. I'm going to keep my sample and try it again in the future, though!

I totally agree on L'Eau Papier! I love Tam Dao and Philosykos, and the name and notes were so appealing to me. In retrospect, I may have liked it more going in blind. It pulls very sweet on my skin for some reason. I don't get any savory or "papery" notes, or even musks.

I want to preface this by saying, if one of your favorite fragrances is in this post, please don’t be offended lol. I respect your taste and this is just my opinion based off my nose and tastes 😂

Y Eau de Parfum - The apple top note in this is just so synthetic and bad to me. And when it finally calms down, the dry down smells like a mishmash of feminine perfumes. Like walking into the mall department store perfume section.

Interlude Man - Instant scrubber. I got a decant and it smelled like an ashtray to me.

Givenchy Gentleman Eau de Toilette - Huge blast of alcohol and patchouli followed by animal urine. I’m a fan of classic fougere fragrances, but it’s hard to believe people actually wear this 😂

Myslf - It’s not bad by any means, but it seems like this was a darling of the social media influencers for a while, and to me it just smells like SweeTarts.

Portrait of a Lady Eau de Parfum - I love rose fragrances, so I thought I would love this. I did not. It’s way too loud and there’s nothing that makes it special to me. It’s a pretty standard jammy dark rose. If I want to wear a nice dark rose I’d reach for Nirvana Rose 10 times out of 10 over POAL.

I understand why they are popular (affordability) but most Lattafa fragrances smell truly off-putting to me. The last I tried on due to a safe note list and positive reviews was Victoria and oh boy. Nononono. Harsher than showering in chlorine-based all purpose cleaner. It's entirely possible that I'm overly sensitive to one of their favoured aroma chemicals, but they truly have some unpleasantness in their lineup.

also on my shit list, without the excuse of having to source cheap ingredients:

Erba Pura

Kirkè Extrait de Parfum

Black Orchid Eau de Parfum

Truly vile.

1 Million Eau de Toilette

One of the few fragrances that have given me a headache.

@Stardust23 I enjoyed looking through that shelf. Thanks! We have some overlap, for sure:

Layton (so boring), Imagination (did they forget to finish this before they released it?), African Leather Eau de Parfum (leather? where? and why has this pefume faded to nothing in under 30 minutes?), Bal d'Afrique Eau de Parfum (or anything from Byredo, really), Afternoon Swim (again, seems unfinished).

I've been inspired by @jasperdezoet's thread Brands that you just don't get? Personally, there aren't many brands I don't get but there are a few fragrances that are wildly popular and I don't understand why.

Top of the list for me is By the Fireplace. To me it just smells like a vanilla version one of those air fresheners that you plug into an electric outlet. I see so many people talk about how smoky it is and I get zero smoke. And try as I might, there's nothing I smell that makes me think, "Oh, this doesn't smell like smoke to me but I understand how it could smell like smoke to someone else."

And since it only smells like fake vanilla to me, I find the price to be utterly staggering.

So what fragrance is it for you? (I'm guessing there will be a lot of Baccarat Rouge 540 Eau de Parfum replies. 😆)

I'm one of those "baccarat rouge 540" ones Wink

I’ve finally heard someone else say they think Imagination and Afternoon Swim are unfinished. That’s exactly my sentiment! (Same for Pacific Chill btw). They smell pretty good I guess??? But I would never wear them as they just feel unfinished.

I first discovered it with Pacific Chill My 5 seconds in reaction was really high. But as time went on a voice in my head had questions and after a few hours I had to admit it to myself what we’re talking about here.

Agreed. And because of that unfinished feeling, they smell like they're supposed to be fancy room sprays rather than perfumes.
