Lightning McQueen's choice for a night out

Sweet and cozy, predominantly leathery; but sage gives it a bit of a sharp and almost spicy twist. Lasts well over ~6 hours, slowly losing sillage and settling close to the skin after the first ~4. The notes somehow mix together in a way that feels almost... boozy? Like traveling home by taxi after sipping on one too many mint juleps at a nice bar. Except you are the taxi.

No, for real, it makes you smell like a car. Granted, a very nice and well cared for car! With leather seats, and climate control, and an expensive variation of those dangling paper trees you're supposed to hang onto your rear-view mirror. Probably the sexiest car on the block. Local Miatas instantly feel shy and retract their headlamps when they see you.

So if you're a car, this fragrance is great, I can wholeheartedly recommend trying it out. As a human though? Eh, I'll pass.

The stable bad boy

A well-built leather fragrance that gets straight to the point. The combination of leather and sage clearly dominates the opening - tart, slightly medicinal, almost dry as dust. This is joined by a smoky undertone that gives the whole thing a somewhat rougher feel.

Over time, a dry woodiness pushes forward, pleasantly rounding off the leather. The development is not particularly dynamic, but clearly structured and without gimmicks. Anyone looking for a straightforward, unadorned fragrance with a leather focus should be in good hands here.

There are no big surprises. The fragrance sticks to its line and offers a reliable blend of spice, dryness and leather framework.

The Bay Boy with a leather jacket and a cigarette in his mouth hanging around his car.

An intense blend of smoke, some spices and a light, pleasant sweetness unfolds immediately on the first spray. The distinctive cocoa note in particular stands out after about 5-10 minutes and gives the fragrance a dark, slightly creamy depth.

The quite magnificent leather accord reminds me a little of Ombré Leather Parfum

Roughly speaking: Imagine a typical bad boy from the 90s.
Slicked-back hair, leather jacket, a cigarette in his mouth. That's exactly how this fragrance smells to me.

Unfortunately, I never tested the original Bad Boy extensively, so I can't name any similarities or parallels. Nevertheless, I find the fragrance very successful.

Ode to a dying breed

Bad Boy Elixir remains true to the series: at its core are sweet, spicy synthetics aimed at young men. What makes this flanker different? In addition to the familiar DNA, we get leather and smoke. This shifts the area of application slightly: while Bad Boy Eau de Toilette and its ilk are more likely to appeal to the majority of male teenagers, the smoky leather gives DNA a darker, badass touch. Sniffing the sprayed arm, I imagine a modern rocker between 18 and 22. Still wearing a leather jacket, longer hair, but otherwise a young guy from Gen Z.
Do they even still exist? Hasn't rock been on the decline for decades? How many guys who indulge in this style of music are still around? Certainly fewer than 40 years ago, but Bad Boy Elixir would be perfect for them and would be ideal as a fragrance for going out. Otherwise, it is just as suitable for parties, in the club only when there is no dancing, otherwise the smoke and leather could become unpleasant.

As with the OG, I simply don't notice the cocoa at all. The sage, on the other hand, doesn't really fit into the overall scent and underlines the already synthetic impression. As it progresses, the synthetic sweetness gives way more and more to the smoky leather, which lasts the longest as a base.

The sillage is pleasing, starting off strong and remaining at a good level for a respectable 3½ hours before the bad boy gradually fades away. The total shelf life until it reaches the skin is 8½ hours, so the price is also quite reasonable.
I like the Blitz bottle best here next to #Bad Boy Cobalt, the color fits quite well. Nevertheless, I don't warm to the design, for me it just crosses the line into kitsch.

Did you need all this? Well, this elixir is definitely the far less offensive version of Bad Boy Le Parfum, which also enriches the DNA with leather, but massively scares off those who dislike it with its extremely penetrating hemp.
I don't like this flanker either, but the entire series doesn't make it easy for me. But if you like the OG, you should give this one a chance and try it out.
