A Sweet Melody (But Primarily for Others)
Dolce Melodia is a fragrance in which I've been interested ever since I heard Sebastian Jara (The Perfume Guy) review it. I was able to get my nose on it this summer and I discovered that it somewhat lives up to his generous description - but with a catch.

SCENT: The opening is an almost overwhelming rush of sweet, juicy citrus. I was initially concerned but the sweetness eventually transitions into a somewhat creamy, subtle spiciness that is much easier to bear. For me, it's pleasant - perhaps even lovely - but not life-changing. HOWEVER, several people who smelled it on me were over the moon about it. While you may (or may not) enjoy Dolce Melodia, others will LOVE it. The reaction I got after 2 full wearings was conclusive.

LONGEVITY: Lingers without being too insistent. About 2 hours of moderate projection on my skin. 6-8 hours overall.

SILLAGE: This is where the magic occurs. The sillage isn't monstrous but it whispers, 'Come hither' wherever it lands. I'll say it again (and possibly not for the last time): others will LOVE this on you.

BOTTLE: The obtrusive orange of the bottle corrupts the aesthetic integrity of my collection. Your results may vary.

VALUE FOR THE MONEY: The question of value is always so personal. At the time I'm writing this review (Black Friday 2024) a 100ml bottle can cost you around $300 USD; a pretty penny. As a house, Sospiro thinks highly of itself. You'll have to decide for yourself if you agree with their self-assessment.

Perfect balanced
Classical music has the power to calm the soul. Its nuanced compositions and harmonies can transport us to a state of well-being and serenity.
I admit that I often listen to it to get into a state of total relaxation, in particular a symphony that makes me feel really good is Debussy's ‘Clair de Lune’.
Dolce Melodia is a fragrance that, with the presence of fruit, makes us feel good. In this fragrance, one perceives not only the juiciness of the pear, but also the almost narcotic aroma of white flowers, rich, sweet and perfectly balanced with light suede and woody nuances.
The evolution is very complex, and in the drydown a really pleasant creaminess comes out.
Sensual and penetrating, I really liked it.

Saffron-infused Flintstones vitamin
Dolce Melodia is.... all right. I have to say I was expecting more given what I've heard about it, but I suppose that just goes to show how important it is to sample a scent for yourself before committing to a full bottle.

First and foremost the saffron is LOUD. I would say you have to be in love with that note in order to fully enjoy this fragrance. I don't mind saffron in tempered doses but in this composition it is front and center and lasts throughout the wear of the fragrance. Per my personal taste, I think I'd enjoy the perfume more if the saffron was toned down a bit - part of the background. The way it's done here is just a bit too much and comes across quite screechy to me.

The second most prominent aspect to this fragrance is the fruits. None of the ones involved smell particularly realistic though and I'm not really able to pick out any of them individually. I suppose that could be a compliment to the perfume's blending, but to me it comes off rather juvenile, like a heavily scented lip balm or body care product marketed towards young children.

There's also a fizzy and powdery character that, combined with the artificial fruits, conjures the memory of a Flintstones vitamin. If you know you know!

Dolce Melodia doesn't evolve much over the wear either. The elements outlined above continue to be the most prominent parts of the fragrance through the dry down. Eventually, the vanilla starts to peak through but not enough for my liking. I think more vanilla would have been helpful here to help soften the edges of this perfume a bit.

On a more positive note, Dolce Melodia, like other fragrances I've tried from Sospiro, performs well. I'll get whiffs throughout the day and sometimes it lasts overnight depending on where I've sprayed it.

In summary, I find Dolce Melodia to be quite synthetic and rather uninteresting. It's a confusing fragrance from Sospiro, which I often see discussed as luxurious and classy. While I don't find it particularly unpleasant, it doesn't meet that criteria and feels a bit immature. I don't think I'll be pulling for my sample super often and won't be adding it to my collection, especially considering the price tag.

If it weren't for the first half hour...
Unfortunately, Dolce Melodia did not inspire me at all. I found the opening of the fragrance to be very synthetic, almost pungent and slightly alcoholic. At least that's the case with my bottling. The fragrance needs a few minutes to develop a little better and generally become more beautiful.
After about an hour, it reaches its best phase for me.

Dolce Melodia has mandarin, orange and saffron in the top notes.
I perceive the tangerine in the foreground, as well as the saffron that is already waiting in the background as a spicy part. Perhaps it is also the saffron that creates this strange, synthetic, pungent impression. I don't know.

Over time, the pear comes around the corner. Some blackcurrant and a light rose also complement the fragrance.
The pear is quite intense and you have to like it. However, the pear also plays with the mandarin from the top note and the saffron.

Towards the end, it becomes increasingly spicy and warm.
Sandalwood and a gentle vanilla are now added.
The fruity, slightly citrusy elements are then no longer really present.
Although I don't find the fragrance to be really citrusy in general.
The fruity side is definitely the main player here.

Unfortunately, I don't like the first phase at all.
I found the first 20-30 minutes in particular to be really bad.
Maybe my bottling is also to blame. Who knows.

The fragrance is definitely super easy to wear by men and women and the performance is okay to good.
On my skin it can be perceived for about 6-8 hours.

Fruity floral that dries to a sweet amber. To me, like a fruity floral over Grand Soir

Fruity floral. Like the fresh fruity burst you get when chewing fruit gum. This would work well anytime, especially summer. Delicious!

Opens smooth-creamy-sweet in the air (hints of Italica's DNA), on-skin it smells sweet-fruity-synthetic (vanilla + pear handwash). Feminine.
