A good fragrance for the summer. Is the Parfumo hype justified?
Basso is one of those fragrances that feels like it's constantly being mentioned here in the ticker at the moment and has a lot of hype.
Is this hype justified?

Admittedly, the fragrance reminds me a lot of Terre d'Hermès. I definitely get very similar vibes here.
Here and there it is also compared to Isola Blu.
My personal opinion is that it is roughly on a par with the TdH. But I like the Isola Blu much better.

Basso starts with a certain kind of citrus. It strikes me as a mixture of grapefruit and lemon. This mix is tangy and refreshing and is of course perfect for the warmer months of the year. But I also immediately sense this slightly peppery note and the oakmoss and vetiver used in the background.

As the fragrance progresses, the effervescence recedes somewhat and the slightly "dark" notes of pepper and vetiver come to the fore a little more. The oakmoss can now also be smelled more intensely.
The oakmoss is also reminiscent of colleagues such as Roja Apex or, for example, Creed Absolue Aventus.
Of course, this does not mean that these two fragrances generally smell like Basso. I think that goes without saying.

All in all, a nice fragrance, but one that doesn't completely win me over.
To come back to the question of whether the hype is justified. My personal opinion: no.
Fortunately, fragrances are subjective and that's a good thing.

More tenor than bass
I speak as a studied musician and bass player of 30 years. This is more tenor than bass. From the name, I’d think this would be more about thick, deep, resinous notes. Clearly it’s not.

Bright, green, grassy, floral, sour grapefruit citrusy, spicy, peppery. On the color spectrum, I visualize orange, green, earthy tones.

Comparatively, sits between TdH Parfum and Roja’s Isola Blu. Isola Blu is more colorful, like light refracted through a prism, fruitier, juicier, brighter, sweeter in the base, more cheerful particularly in the opening hour. They become more similar in the dry down. Bear in mind these are subtle differences I’m speaking of. These two are very, very close and the differences come out only on close inspection.

I do have to say that the dry down does become a bit muddled here after an hour or so while Isola Blu retains the note separation and distinctness. The latter is somewhat higher quality but you will pay dearly for that very small difference.

Performance is comparative to the two aforementioned. Ultimately about average for a fresh citrusy perfume, or what I like to refer to as classy sillage, for yourself and those close to you. For all day enjoyment, you’ll want to take a travel sprayer. Eg. if you spray before going to work you’ll probably want to spray again on your lunch break.

I would not call Basso a great fragrance, but I do really enjoy it as I don’t demand too much from fresh citrusy summer fragrances. It’s an easy, likable wear with enough depth and complexity to keep me interested.

For those with small collections, this would be redundant if you had TdH Parfum or Isola Blu. For those like me with larger collections, you may find enough nuanced differences to have any or all of these. I am biased towards this one because of the name and my love for bass playing. And the quality and price ratio sits nicely in the attainable luxury spectrum: better than a standard designer and not outrageously priced where I’d need to worry about my bank account with every spray. But once my travel atomizer of Isola Blu is gone I’ll likely be purchasing a bottle of that too to wear on more rare occasions.

Beautiful sillage
Looking at these notes, they scream feminine mediocrity to me. I fully expected this to lean feminine and not really be anything special, but I was completely wrong about that.

This is a beautiful, perfectly unisex composition. It's so seamlessly blended that it's hard to discern any one note other than the bright burst of citrus right off the top.

It has a robust sillage and offers great performance, even in cold weather. It completely took me by surprise on this 35* windy winter day. I can only imagine what it will do with a little warmth.

WOW! What a remarkable fragrance.
First of all: It is a special pleasure for me to write the very first review of a fragrance. :)

Basso - you are definitely something else. People may associate other fragrances with you, but that won't bother you or me. Because no one can match your sophistication and quality. You immediately cast a spell over me with your manner. If you had to describe you in 3 key words, for me it would be: citrusy, spicy and woody.

You are finely tuned and really round. You are good! You don't shout but you make yourself clearly noticeable. It's not without reason that I've often been approached by you. Your longevity on my skin is enough for a working day. I don't know how Maestro Provenzano did it, but your citric is really long-lasting.

Nice that you exist!

The Vetiver-Grapefruit DNA driven to perfection. Sits somewhere between TdH and Isola Blu, perfectly blended, elegant, masculine

Isola Blu copy? No. Close enough at less than 1/3rd the cost. Less fruity. Both are luxury TDH inspirations, neither original, still great.

Fresh-citrusy-green, clearly imitates Isola Blu/Oligarch (90-95% of the blending). Less sillage, mildly better longevity, far better value.
