Tuberose lotion

What I like about the whole Memo brand is that each of their perfumes is treated as a broader concept and comes with accompanying artwork and a bottle design that deserves a prominent spot in any collection. I do not care much for the bit-too-vague backstories, but I can live with that. Anyway, in this edition of the Fleurs Bohèmes line, Memo takes on the tuberose theme.

Marfa opens with a smooth and refreshing light breeze. Things feel a bit fruit-juicy here, a bit sweet and kind of sappy. It does not take long before the white florals appear, along with an overwhelming creamy sensation. It is as if Memo stripped the tuberose of all its sharp and green facets and all that is left is the velvet-smooth softness. And then the ylang, the vanilla and the sandalwood take this creaminess a few steps further, almost into body lotion territory.

Admittedly, the composition feels highly luxurious. It is clear that this is a quality product. But somehow this makes me feel like an Instagram vlogger (or any person for that matter, just picturing an image here) who layers scented body care products with high-end perfumes. Golden sparkle filter and all. Not my kind of vibe.

Marfa by Memo

Marfa is a beautifully modulated white floral with an agave nectar to add sweetness and freshness to the tuberose and orange blossom. It never veers too sharp, a bit dry leading it to unisex potential. Very long lasting, quality experience, and unique in its style. It will be noticed in a good way.

Best of its kind

Marfa is mainly a floral-sweet-musky fragrance. It has white musk, so there is no dirtiness or animalic note. It is delicious, clean and enchanting with that tuberose note which keeps a great chic and plush quality.

Tuberose is prominent in many women's fragrances with other florals and keeps a feminine quality in my memory. Now in Marfa, you still get that floral and sweet tuberose but there is also an agave note which is both sweet and cactusy green smelling. Well i really loved that.

Marfa leans to the feminine side of the equilibrium but if you like sweet florals, it is a great scent to use or layer. Marfa is a true niche fragrance that gives you the notes with their true beauty. You keep getting slight hints of supporting notes like cedar which adds a cute woody smell.

Marfa is a scent that makes me very happy. This is a top quality fragrance. I use a 2020 batch and it has very good lasting power and projection.

The lovely, quiet elegance of a creamy tuberose

After trying out Madurai, I was curious to see how this one would fare since both have somewhat similar notes. If Madurai is a peach-forward perfume on my skin, Marfa is a tuberose-forward fragrance.

It starts quite similar to Madurai with a very nice, refreshing and uplifting peach note accompanied by citrus. Don't be fooled though: it doesn't take very long before the middle notes rise up and that's when the difference becomes quite clear. I got a nice, carnal, floral and tropical ylang-ylang for a few minutes, but the star here is truly the tuberose. It's sweet, creamy, floral with a touch of powderiness. Might be the best tuberose scent I've smelled up until now. It doesn,t have that bubblegum aspect or that animalic hint. It stays pretty fresh and light, while retaining a nice rounded creaminess I love in white florals. Orange blossom might be keeping it on the lighter side of things. It never goes into the tropical territory apart from that small ylang-ylang reference. The drydown is warm, comforting and soothing. I get the dry and powdery sweetness of vanilla, some clean white musks and a hint of woodiness.

Overall it has that lovely, quiet elegance I've come to recognise in the Fleur Bohèmes collection. It's dignified, simple, yet is quite enticing. I'm not a big fan of wearing tuberose-forward scents on myself, which is why I won't be adding a full bottle to my collection. but it's a very lovely scent nonetheless.

Chic et décontract - a classy daytime tuberose

Marfa by Memo Paris is a very "round" and light fragrance. It is a creamy tuberose, a little bit sweet, but not too much. The general vibe I get is "chic but relax" (or, pardon my French, "chic et décontract"). The perfume is marketed unisex, but leans very feminine. The person who uses Marfa wears jeans, but those are perfectly tailored for them, and probably cost the equivalent of my rent for a month, and their shoes are always very classy. A nice white shirt complete the look, but it's probably a designer white shirt without logo. Their hair is always perfect, but in that "I just woke up like that" vibe, and they have the most radiant smile. Maybe they have a ranch somewhere, and if not, they certainly know how to ride a horse.

On my skin, the opening is mostly tuberose and ylang-ylang, with a slight citrus note from the orange blossom. The agave gives an interesting sweetness to the ensemble, backed by the musky base and the vanilla. Interestingly, the opening on the paper stripes features much more mandarine and orange blossom than on my skin, where the tuberose, ylang-ylang and agave power trio take all the place. The dry down is also very creamy, with a creamy musk and sandalwood coupled with the vanilla, and a very slight woodyness, the tuberose and ylang-ylang progressively disappearing in the mix. Projection is moderate (4-6 feet I would say) and longevity is pretty good (main tuberose scents 3-5 hours, the creamy dry down lasted for a few more hours on my skin).

It is very nice, however, not the best tuberose scent. I like the agave note, it is quite different from other sweet-white flowers combo out there; the vanilla is subtle enough, and a good mix with the sandalwood and white musk for it not to be clogging, giving an airy feeling overall. I'm just not sure I know where I would wear that - it's classy, but not really a night-time fragrance (in my opinion, but you could do that), but it's too classy and projects too much to wear every day. I guess it classifies as a "brunch fragrance" - for a classy daytime setting. Or, if you are that classy lady (or gent) described above, just wear it everyday.
