Rome for Greatness
Rome - One of the most monumental cities in the history of mankind. Unfortunately, I've never been there, so I can only imagine what the streets of Rome might smell like. I was expecting a lot of impressions, but not a scent double...
The fragrance is actually very successful, because the woody-smoky notes surrounded by spices and floral accents create an expressive scent, so expressive that I immediately had to smile when I first smelled it. Because what my nose perceives there is unmistakably a doppelganger of Oud for Greatness Eau de Parfum. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against duplicates in principle BUT with a perfume house like Birkholz, which presents itself as very upmarket and prices its products accordingly, the fragrances should be more original. If the people behind Birkholz are a big fan of Oud for Greatness Eau de Parfum, what would be the problem with communicating this accordingly, paying tribute to the original fragrance and bringing out their own creation based on it, which they modify with a personal touch to give the fragrance its own character. This approach would also be more acceptable to me. For me, Roads of Rome is a masculine fragrance. Even though the manufacturer categorizes the fragrance as unisex, the user numbers on Parfumo are quite clear, because of 46 users of the fragrance on Parfumo, a whopping 87% are male.
The performance is decent, because with four sprays on my neck I was able to perceive myself for six hours. Not quite as strong as Oud for Greatness Eau de Parfum but by no means bad either.
I really like the look of the bottle and it makes a high-quality impression. The golden lid definitely fits into a Rome setting, but I would have liked a white bottle, because Rome automatically makes me think of ancient white buildings.
Birholz charges 225 euros for 100ml. Considering the fragrance DNA and performance, that's fine. Considering the fact that it is a fragrance doppelganger, however, it is a very proud price.
In my opinion, the only thing that speaks in favor of Roads of Rome compared to Oud for Greatness Eau de Parfum is the lower price. But if the original from Initio is too expensive for you, you will find much cheaper dupes from other manufacturers out there.
