The Sky is Not Always Gray
Today, after a long break, I would like to talk about a fragrance again, this time from the house of Birkholz. Since I am a bit out of practice, I ask you to forgive my somewhat jumpy writing style; it’s not for everyone...
Birkholz is a Berlin-based family business, and it’s no surprise that some fragrances bear "Berlin" in their name. I have never been to Berlin, but I would love to visit the city just for their store, because I would have a bottle engraved, which is possible along with a choice of cap colors. The bottle is very high-quality - made of glass with a fine sprayer. The colored part of the cap can be personalized, just like the label.
The Berlin Sky is not a loud fragrance, whose sillage jumps out at you when you enter a room; rather, it presents itself as lightly gray over an entire morning.
As for the scent itself, I would say it is far less fruity than the top notes suggest. It doesn’t have an extravagant scent progression; I perceive the rose from the very beginning, as well as the woods, while the musk only joins my nose after about 2 hours. Lily of the valley prevents the fragrance from coming across as too young and radiant; I also suspect it might be muting the pear and blackcurrant right at the start, as unfortunately, they are missing for my nose, which I was really looking forward to before the first test...
The sky does not seem gray, but it is not radiantly blue either; to me, it feels like a cloudy spring day, where the flowers are already sprouting, but it doesn’t get really warm. Luckily, you no longer smell the rain on the asphalt from the previous day.
In summary, I find that this offers a nice everyday fragrance for any season, especially if you prefer more subtle woody-floral scents and don’t want to stand out too much.
Thank you for reading, I look forward to your opinion on the fragrance!
