The Peppery Elegance with a Clean Character

Cedar N' Pepper is a totally solid fragrance with a clean character.
It is pleasantly peppery, yet very agreeable. Additionally, there are these beautiful woody facets.

The scent starts off with a slightly peppery freshness.
A subtle rose note is present, and together with the cashmere wood, it creates this clean character.

Over time, the woody facets of the fragrance become a bit more intense, and a clean, bright musk note is added.

I love the brand Birkholz, and it is my absolute number 1.
Cedar N' Pepper is one of the few scents that doesn't quite manage to fully captivate me. Otherwise, they seem to succeed with almost all their fragrances.
Nevertheless, it is nice and very pleasant.

The longevity on my skin is about six hours.
The projection/sillage is also okay. It doesn't radiate widely, but it's not completely quiet either.

The scent simply radiates good vibes! Clean & Fresh, slightly peppery with a subtle cedar influence, where subtle means a super balanced note that is not overpowering or sharp.
The fragrance is perfect for the office/daily wear when you don't want to smell like everyone else (Prada L'homme, Bleu de Chanel, etc.)

Exactly what our politicians often lack: A clear statement!

Sometimes I am truly amazed at the niches from which certain fragrances emerge. And I am surprised that, although I have been fond of the perfume industry for quite a long time, I keep discovering new brands.

Such is the case with Birkholz, a name I had never encountered before, let alone was familiar with.

Anyone who calls themselves a manufacturer prepares me as a potential customer to expect not mainstream and mass production, but rather handpicked products. This, I suspect, should also reflect in the corresponding prices, but more on that later.

First, let's talk about the bottles. Although not visually striking, it is immediately clear that someone has put a certain love for detail into their work. Noble appearance, no wobbly caps, but leather-covered tops, and from the side, it’s a big show that further increases my desire to test the contents. The lovingly crafted wrapping of the bottle crowns its noble character. This is how bottles should look, capable of making a good impression in any bathroom and able to delight the owner anew every day. Because ultimately, what is special is also what one is often willing to pay a little more for.

Three sprays (the sprayer does its job excellently) and I immediately realized that at least one less would have sufficed. Cedarwood and pepper pack a punch and initially almost overwhelm my senses with their strength and clarity. I think I can detect hints of musk notes as well as a slight touch of leather, but ultimately, for me, the pepper remains the clearly dominating element. It makes the fragrance special and unmistakable, giving it a mix of aggression, hardness, and animalic qualities that I find really hard to describe. I am almost inclined to say that we have here the aggressive brother of Leather 6 from Schwarzlose, the latter being almost "softened" by vanilla in direct comparison, while this one comes around the corner with a hard-hitting statement.

I do not recognize any major changes in the fragrance progression; pepper from start to finish, underpinned with a lot of wood, that’s it. Well done and certainly a very successful fragrance experience for anyone who appreciates clear statements. I think it’s great when a perfumer dares to create something that is truly unique. An elegant fragrance, but also eccentric; those who prefer to stay in the background should think carefully before making a purchase.

Speaking of background. That is the big and completely mysterious, because inexplicable weakness: the sillage. After spraying, I was almost afraid of the comments in the office, but after an hour, there was hardly anything left in terms of sillage. In comparison to the longevity, and this is the second surprise, because I know no fragrance that drifts so far apart in terms of sillage and longevity. Even after 7 to 8 hours, the fragrance is still clearly perceptible at 10 cm.

What remains?

First, a great fragrance, in my view eccentric, exclusive, extravagant.

Then a super elegant bottle, extremely high quality in appearance and feel.

Furthermore, decent longevity with simultaneously disappointing sillage values.

And finally, as briefly mentioned above, the price tag. Well, in line with a manufacturer, I expected nothing less; to be fair, I must also say that the bottle and fragrance do offer a lot of value. Nevertheless, 280 bucks for 100ml is not a bargain.

I am curious about more Birkholz scents, but I will not purchase here due to the weak sillage.

Test recommendation for the winter months, in my view more suited for male counterparts. Not for teenagers, yummies, or preppies, but for men who can handle such a load of pepper. Free after the advertising slogan of a well-known mint candy: If it’s too spicy, you’re too weak!

What a fragrance!

Of course, I read all the statements published here before making the purchase, but I still treated myself to a 30ml bottle.

The listed ingredients are exactly my type, and therefore I couldn't resist. The scent itself fulfills everything needed to make it into my all-time Top 10. Mainly, the cedar reveals itself to my nose with slight hints of cashmere wood. In the drydown, there is also a bit of amber in the form of ambroxan, but it's so subtle that even for me, a confirmed ambroxan hater, it doesn't stand out negatively. Additionally, there is a considerable amount of ISO E Super, which does the fragrance a lot of good and makes it appear very elegant and charming overall. However, I can't detect the "rose" mentioned, so I suspect it must be a translation error, as "pink pepper" is something completely different. Although the hoped-for spiciness is not nearly as strong as expected, I would classify the fragrance as rather masculine.

I can fully endorse the often-mentioned lack of sillage. Once sprayed, the fragrance is hardly noticeable to the environment, but it lasts (close to the skin) quite a long time over several hours.

Anyone expecting a sillage monster will be disappointed, but I do not regret the purchase and continue to enjoy this unique fragrance.
