The Courage of a Pioneer
Pioneers. First in their field. Trailblazers. Whether in the military or in the exploration of new worlds. They have existed in all times and perhaps most consciously during the conquest of the New World. Wasn't every explorer also a pioneer? In the Courage Collection by Boadicea the Victorious, the spirit of those women and men is meant to resonate. It is said to be inspired by Boudicca, whose courage serves as a model for the idea behind the fragrances.
Pioneer, as a scent, is described by BtV as a wanderer between intrigue and discovery. Why intrigue? Well, everyone wants to be the first to make a groundbreaking discovery. To go down in history. To become immortal. One is never alone on the journey into the unknown. Envy and resentment are ever-present.
And yet, Pioneer embodies a very noble spirit. It is the engine of progress, which for me establishes itself in an already very aristocratic Cointreau note, mixed with a bit of tobacco and wood. I do not see the sweaty explorer, who, faced with his ever-present death, struggles in a foreign land for fame, but also for his life. Instead, I see the noble explorer, who in a gentlemen's club, with a good drink in a tumbler (not Cointreau), supported by one hand on the mantelpiece, recounts his deeds, his travels. He embellishes. He narrates the essence of success. Not the moments of his own doubt, failure, or fear of death. He tells the stories that are then passed down. Retold. Making names immortal. Uniting entire peoples to stand up for their freedom. Or simply filling history books.
It is exactly this aspect of discovery that resonates in every accord. Awareness. Strength. Therefore, BtV presents Pioneer as a Pure Perfume, which in our linguistic understanding should correspond most closely to an Extrait. The scent comes without much acrobatics.
Thus, the galbanum also brings a resinous, slightly woody-smoky component that still retains a minimal freshness and continues to fuel the feeling of our imagined gentlemen's circle by the fireplace and their "hero." The stories are becoming more adventurous. Anecdotes are embellished, and the spirit of the pioneer warms the soul of the fragrance.
The deep, yet warm woody tones of the base mix here and there into the aura and perhaps represent the dark paneling in the salon in our image. The tradition. The witnesses of so many stories. While noble resins increasingly take over and create a world that could hardly be more beautiful. These accords guarantee an amber-colored drydown in the light of a flickering fire in the fireplace. Of one or two emptied glasses. Stories that gave women and men their place in history. Unforgettable.
Pioneers. Like you and me.
I can recommend Pioneer to anyone who enjoys boozy-woody-resinous scents. I can also very well imagine it on a woman, in the right dose. Pioneer has a very noble, aristocratic, and at the same time timeless aura that encourages and motivates one to step out of their own comfort zone. H/S are clearly above the limit and carry me effortlessly through the day. And that is just the longevity on the skin.
I thank Caligari for the chance to have experienced this fragrance. Now the sample is empty, and the bottle must be acquired (Does that rhyme? It was a coincidence.) :)
