Hello barrel my old friend…
Whisky. And wood. And whisky. And wood.

An oak barrel with whisky, but not the boozy, fruity kind. The dryer, maltier one.
The naming of the scent is confusing: if there’s oud in it, it sure doesn’t show itself up front. There is no classic oudy cheesy barnyard smell whatsoever (and I do appreciate the dirtiness of the “raw” oud like in Amouages King Blue!) and the woody part is more of an old branch your dog picks up from the ditch and adopts.
Though it has a sourness to it that might come from the oud, I feel like it’s more in line with a raw (not pipe!) tobacco note?
Nevertheless I quite like it - it’s far from anything else in my collection and for the odd occasion when I want to smell like a newly cracked cask of Speyside single malt, it’s perfect. Powerfull sillage for the first two/three hours, slowly settling to a long lasting skin scent that matches the fall vibe well.
Worth noting I blind bought this (in search of Daring Saffiano also from The Collection) for close to 100€. I would not pay full retail for it. Highly recommend sampling if you want a bit of an outlier in the woody category, but definitely not a crowd pleaser.
Oh, and the bottle is…a bit bland and “cheap”. Good weight but no magnetic cap and the label just looks a bit low budget. Doesn’t match the price level in my opinion.

On a cold dry day...
… I go for a walk in the Bavarian Forest. I arrive with my dog at a fish pond where fish have been caught. Near the pond stands a house and also a smoking chamber that is in operation, spreading its smoky aromas. I ask the fisherman what that smell is, which is not really familiar to me, and he explains that he uses wood along with bran for smoking. Shortly thereafter, he pulls out the trout and I buy one from him. My little one and I enjoy it immediately, as hot as it is. Delicious.

Upon applying this fragrance, the first thing that hits the nose is a smoky, spicy, dry scent. Underneath, the oud blends in a gentle but distinctly noticeable way and is dust-dry. This perfume matures and takes on a pronounced masculine twist.

The longevity and sillage are very good.

Here we have a fragrance from Hugo Boss's luxury line. Dear people at Boss, a higher price for the line is acceptable, but the price you quote on your site is ridiculously exaggerated. Nevertheless, it is a great scent and I don't understand why it is rated so poorly in some cases. Is it again because it is from a designer and there are people who think that such a house shouldn't release such a fragrance? In any case, it is also wearable by women. Since it is quite mature, I would say that 25 years is a good starting age and there is no upper limit. But younger guys can certainly try it out to see if they like it. Since it is not sweet, it is an all-rounder that can be worn all year round. During the day, it works well with a suit, in jeans, leather clothes, but also casually, just as well as in the evening at the opera, in a theater, in a pub, in a bar, in a club, at a meal in a fine dining restaurant, and of course also for certain hours.

Anyone who enjoys a smoky, spicy, dust-dry, adult masculine oud scent should take a close look at this one. It is also significantly cheaper than at Hugo Boss. It is not a discreet perfume; you will be clearly noticed, but it is not overwhelming like its sweet brothers from other brands. There are other ways to smell like this, simply masculine.

Of Bad Life Choices, Mafia Bosses, and Bad Boys
Ah yes, Dominique Ropion.. a love-hate relationship that will probably always remain so. On one hand, he creates masterpieces like Frederic Malle The Night/Cologne Indelebile or Papilefiko by Nishane, on the other hand, there are works that I just don’t quite.. understand, or to put it bluntly, I don’t particularly like, foremost among them is Paco Rabanne Phantom. Enough rambling, now to the scent.

This fragrance is, like most of this line, quite linear and dry. Upon the initial spray, a strong, smoky, alcoholic scent immediately hits the nose, reminiscent of a bottle of whiskey - not some perfume interpretation of whiskey, but the actual smell when you open a new bottle. For some, including myself, this directly evokes a few flashbacks from the first parties at 18, which didn’t quite end as wonderfully as they began. Smoky, alcoholic, absolutely not sweet, and very woody, that’s how I would describe the entire progression of this scent. It strongly reminds me of Oud Wood Intense, which has since been discontinued, but this one is more alcoholic and woodier, while Oud Wood Intense is leatherier.

Confident Oud evokes dark wooden barrels full of aging alcohol, it reminds of evenings when things may have gone a bit off the rails, of old, smoky bars where you mostly encounter regulars aged 50+, of people who couldn’t care less about other opinions and do what they want, of absolute darkness, of a mafia boss casually smoking his cigar before commissioning a new murder, of bad life choices and an unhealthy lifestyle, of dirty alleyways that hardly anyone dares to enter.

This fragrance absolutely lives up to its name "Confident Oud" and is definitely a scent that should be tested beforehand. It is edgy, it is absolutely not mass-appeal, and should be worn with a healthy dose of self-confidence. An absolute statement among boss fragrances.

Dust-dry wood (a bath in sawdust), with fruity-sweet malt, later becomes creamy. It gives me stability. A new golden treasure :)

very light wheat and oud. A bit spicy. It smells really good. I like it! Of course, beginners can rock it too!

Not a boss that would be suitable for the bosses of Boss. Doesn't smoke much, doesn't pull from the leather. Oud isn't the boss either.

Oud for the European market, nothing more.
You can't say much more about it.
At that price, it's not worth it.

A woody, smoky, dry oud scent with a hint of sweetness. It's mature, masculine - a great perfume. The retail price from HB is outrageous.

You definitely need guts for this scent. It smells like you've just come from a barn party and bathed in whisky there.
