Mjólkurkex with a side of lemon chiffon

There's an Icelandic milk biscuit, balanced between vanilla wafer and hard tack-- it's called Mjólkurkex, but don't ask me to pronounce it. It's got the subtle taste of a treat but the tooth-breaking texture of something shockingly punitive. Imagine someone tried to gussy it up with a sifting of icing sugar on top, a powdery dusting through the delicate whorls and swirls of a doily. But maybe that's not enough so they've added a few fragile curls of sweet cream butter, sculpted in the shape of spring flowers. But also what if you maybe just wanted a proper desert, they've served a small slice of the airiest, fluffiest whipped lemon chiffon cake, too. Exactly the sort of thing that would make a Scandinavian minimalist weep with complicated emotions.

cocoa meringue

A clean girl gourmand if I’ve ever smelled one. Opens with a maelstrom of powdered sugar, settles into an air-puffed meringue, and slowly drifts off as a cocoa butter. While I’m totally blind to the lemon and mocha, the salted caramel note is succulent. It has the same airy, translucent quality as most Liises, but totally unlike its siblings in its longevity. I got twelve hours out of three puffs to the collar. It’s a bit too precious for my style (my favourite hyper-femme scent still remains Regime des Fleur’s Glass Blooms) but it makes me want to buy a creampuff Selkie dress and daydream at a sunny bistro table.

Mental Snapshot: Pastry school princess. She specializes in the little treats: the madeleines, the mille-feuille, the macarons, the macaroons. Breathy soprano, eyelet lace, French plait trimmed with a bow. If she were a dessert, it’d be a triple-tiered Saint Honoré, brushed with caramel. You’ve never heard her swear before, but she can really scream when she wants to.

Yummy but too light

It’s good, a nice gourmand with hints of lemon zest and cream. BUT - for this price? And for the hype? It falls a bit flat to me. Dries down to a nice baby oil - suntan lotion scent. I enjoy it but I can see myself reaching for others in this category when I want a comfortable warm tasty scent. I enjoy it but is it really full bottle worthy? eh.

Fleeting gourmand delicacy

I won't lie, at first I was a bit scared because I swear I could smell pepper in the opening. Like very spiky pepper. Not that it's a bad thing at all, just something I was not expecting since there are no notes of pepper in this. I wasn't sure so I waited a few hours to spray it on again to see if I still notice it, and I did. Maybe it's the zest/salt/sandalwood that gives it that peppery/spicy(?) scent to me.

Regardless, it softens up quite quickly into this sweet, lemony pastry scent that I am completely obsessed with. It's like wandering around a foreign town trying to find the bakery you got a distant whiff of. Every time I move and the scent hits me I smile. It's light as a feather, delicate, airy, creamy and just so delicious. It feels like I'm hugging the fluffiest cloud.

As the day goes by, it turns buttery. But not as in oily or heavy, more like very light, milky, fluffy buttercream with just a teeny tiny hint of cocoa. I can totally see myself wearing this every season. My only complaint is that it is so fleeting! It makes my cloud comparison more accurate; right when you're hugging it, it disappears.

For the next few days I'll be debating whether I should get the full bottle or not. If you happen to have it feel free to let me know if it's worth it! I've yet to test it out on fabric.

Btw, another gorgeous 10/10 bottle.

So Delicious

This scent is such a delight. A slight lemony opening, but gives way on my skin to buttery almond croissant. I get the salted caramel, I get the vanilla, sandalwood, and cream. I will say - I don't quite get the mocha and cocoa straight up, however I feel like the grounded aspect that I am perceiving might be thanks to these notes. It's possible that the fact that this perfume -- while sweet, is not cloying -- is thanks to the chocolate aspects.

This is one that I got in a Liis sample set and ordered a 5 ml before my 2 ml sample was even done. It's lovely, especially if you like a baked-good gourmand that isn't overtly sweet or realistic.

My one complaint would be this scent has a VERY low sillage/projection. Even with having sprayed it 5 minutes ago, I have to put my nose right against my skin to smell it. It smells so good thouuughhhh.
