Gourmand-ish cedar

A soft, warm and natural cedar scent without any harshness. This smells more like those small blocks of cedar wood you can put into your drawers than like the typical fuzzy cedar note in modern perfumes.

I think that this has an unlisted sandalwood note besides the cedar, but I don't really get the comparison to Gris Charnel and the likes. This is sweeter and creamier, the tonka bean is very present. And it's a vanillic, almondy kind of tonka, so it leans a little gourmand. I don't know the Japanese chestnut cake this was inspired by (according to Kenzo's marketing), but the drydown does remind me of a creamy cake with ground nuts, surrounded by wooden tablewear.
Oh, and I also smell something like a waxy iris to round it all out.

I'm not that much into woodsy scents, but this feels soft and sweet enough for me to wear it.

I tried 4 fragrances out of the Memori collection so far, and at first I though Cèdre Secret was the most interesting one, then I thought it was my least favorite, and now I came to the conclusion that I just love them all (this one, Nuti Tatami, Coeur Azuki and Poudre Matcha). It depends on my mood which one I like best. These are rather light fragrances, but all of them have something subtly special to them.

"Memori - Cèdre Secret | Kenzo" was released as part of the Kenzo Memori Collection. Inspired by childhood memories (In Japan, Takada Kenzo grew up in a traditional tea house. A childhood accompanied by thousands of scents), Kenzo designed a fragrance that reminded him of the living room in the tea house where he often sat by the fireplace, where the warmth of cedar wood mingled with the autumn light streaming through the room. "Cèdre Secret is my interpretation of this traditional Japanese cake with chestnuts. I then developed this base into a very soft woody scent, like the comforting smell of a family home"

This is HOW the fragrance SHOULD work.....

However, the fragrance has a completely different effect on ME and evokes entirely opposite associations.
For me, "Memori - Cèdre Secret | Kenzo" is the epitome of a makeup table or a room where such a table is located.
A wonderfully ornate white makeup table with a glamorous mirror, well-placed lights, powder puffs, brush holders, powder compacts, lipsticks, mascara, cream jars, jewelry boxes, etc.
In front of the makeup table stands a velvet-covered baroque chair that looks a bit worn. The lady of the house has hung her favorite necklaces on the mirror, and a small feather boa has its place there too. Kitsch is scattered everywhere. The room is littered with expensive designer dresses and stilettos. The wooden shutters are closed, and diffuse light filters through the slats into the room. Dust dances in the light, or perhaps it is the powder that the house lady applied just before?
The room smells of expensive powder and makeup, the most luxurious cosmetics, the finest lipstick, delicate iris, dry and fine cedar wood, a hint of old perfume hangs in the air and is still subtly perceptible, sweet and heavy.
The scene resembles a Hollywood production. Perhaps it is Marilyn Monroe's room. It would suit her - and also "Memori - Cèdre Secret | Kenzo".
A truly fine iris scent with gentle O-flower nuances and dry cedar on a warm tonka base. It is not suffocating, oppressive, or dense, rather bright and fluffy. It is not old-fashioned but also not youthful.
You have to like powder. You have to like iris. I think it’s great. It never becomes intrusive or annoying. It stays in the background, subtly present. H+S is absolutely fine. For me, it is not unisex. It has a very feminine touch. A fragrance that is not necessarily intended for young jumpers.

The new Kenzo series "Memori" is personally one of the most successful series ever for me. In Japan, Kenzo grows up in a traditional tea house. A childhood accompanied by thousands of scents. Kenzo perfumes were inspired by this fragrant shrine and designed the Kenzo Memori Collection, which means memory in Japanese. 7 wonderful fragrances from cheerful to comforting and always with a certain Japanese lightness. There is surely something for everyone. The fragrances are labeled as unisex, but I find them rather feminine.
The only one I haven't liked from the series so far is "Memori - Ciel Magnolia | Kenzo".
The price/performance ratio is absolutely top, and the bottles are all in different pastel colors.
The whole series is definitely worth a try!

Soothing powdery iris stays bright and cheerful without becoming old-fashioned. A hint of artificial floral undertone is only a minor distraction. Very lovely!
