Lancome can do more
So, until not long ago .. for me Lancome was the brand with "Julia Roberts", which I dislike by the way. My wife loves the La vie est belle so I also like her scent, but anyway ..

Oud Bouquet opened the way for me to discover the "Grand Crus", which in all the sense of the word, are very special. From the carton used for the package until the carefully assembled bottles, it´s all at another level.

This scent is a lovely oud rose combination with many surprises along the way, enjoy the video.

Dark & Mysterious
Oud is a rather recent discovery for me, and I simply cannot have enough of it! This one is definitely one of the best. Mesmerising and addictive. Dark elegance, mysterious and seductive. Mature experience, when the years gone by have made one wiser and more daring at the same time. A dark red rose at the button-hole of a silk velvet dinner jacket. Or a burgundy evening gown. Someone who enjoys dressing up for going to the opera or the opening night of a star-studded play. Someone for whom only the best is good enough. And then more...

Why not be different for a change?
I have thought a lot about L’Autre Ôud. I would like to categorize it as a rather difficult fragrance, as it has little to nothing flattering or sweet about it.
Nevertheless, I find it absolutely wonderful!
Just last night, I attended a concert at the Elbphilharmonie (my very first one). The theme was "Piano Day"
What exactly awaited me was somewhat unclear, as the description in the program was quite vague.
It followed with rather experimental music, a piano virtuoso with original compositions, and a trio of piano, double bass, and drums played freely without coordinating beforehand (they told us they had been doing it this way for 12 years). Yes, it sounded like that, although you could tell that they were extremely well attuned to each other. A lot of sound and little melody describes it best. And yet, it was coherent in itself.
Then there was a duo, piano and saxophone, with improvisations and reinterpretations of jazz classics.
This is not the music I usually enjoy, but why not just immerse oneself in something different and discover that besides the well-trodden and familiar paths, there are also detours and side roads?
In this context, I would like to mention that a lady sat in front of me who was wearing L’Autre Ôud. I recognized it immediately. That certain commanding severity, paired with rather bitter and dry resins, and very few, minimalist floral impressions matched perfectly with the evening. This lady must have already been over 60, with a somewhat austere but very distinctive appearance, dressed discreetly and elegantly in gray and white with few accessories. The fragrance suited her excellently.
During the intermission, it happened that we stood together at a table, and we started a conversation. It’s always worth discussing unusual music in more depth. I couldn’t help but mention the fragrance to her. She was very pleased with the compliment, and I could confirm that it suited her excellently and was perfectly chosen for the evening. I should have worn it too; that would have been a wonderful complement.
L’Autre Ôud has been in my collection for quite some time; I still have the previous version in the 75 ml bottle with the printed gates.
I was able to acquire it along with Ôud Bouquet at a very good price and am thrilled by this uniqueness.
I perceive this fragrance as I did last night, different from the traditional paths, very idiosyncratic, very dry, very experimental; it doesn’t really have anything harmonious about it, yet it feels very coherent as a whole and certainly provokes thought.
Normally, the term Oud triggers escape reflexes in me; I find it piercing, too harsh, too intrusive, sometimes almost stable-like, unpleasant, and overwhelming.
But there are exceptions like this one. Here, Oud is clearly present, sets the tone, but is somewhat shaken up in combination with resins and spices. The very sparingly used accents of rose provide a certain balancing harmony and slightly soften the severity, even if only a little.
I cannot discern a very distinct progression; the succession of chords simply continues, and you just go along with it and are carried away.
And these chords are quite long-lasting; they resonate until the next morning.

My conclusion about last night and the fragrance is: For those who want to look beyond the usual monotony and can and want to immerse themselves in both extraordinary music and extraordinary fragrances, I recommend L’Autre Ôud. The fragrance is equally suitable for her and him.
It can simply be different; I find it enriching. Therefore, I am wearing the fragrance again today, even if it’s just for me.

Like a Sledgehammer to the Face
During the first brief test, I thought this was a really great rose-oud fragrance. Even this morning, I had the thought, even the urge, to buy a decant. The rose does not smell musty, and a clearly synthetic, but rather ethereal oud note, as known from many fragrances, joins in, so that the rose does not seem too musty either. Together with guaiac wood, it becomes quite cozy and slightly sweet.
However, after a full day of testing, I find the scent almost to be a form of bodily harm. This synthetic oud note eventually becomes all that remains and is so penetrating that it almost takes your breath away. The rose is quite nice, but not incredibly beautiful - meaning it lacks lightness and delicacy. Several times today, I had the urge to peel my skin off, as if this scent were hitting me in the face like a sledgehammer. Other fragrances tend to fade in and out, and occasionally you get to enjoy a changing, beautiful impression. But after a while, all you get here is the same overly dominant oud note wafting up your nose.
It is a nice fragrance, quite well made for a rose-oud scent - because the rose is beautifully warm without smelling moldy, musty, or unclear in any way. But over time, it incredibly gets on my nerves.

Pam or Three Adjacent Suites
In my very first job, I was involved in organizing a kind of annual 'Leadership Conference', where top executives from all over the world were flown in for a few days. My main task was to prepare the content for them, but since everyone has to pitch in at some point during such large events, I also took on logistical organization. One challenge I still remember well was Pam (of course, Pam had a last name, and her first name wasn't really Pam). We had the task of organizing three adjacent suites for Pam - as always - of course not at the Ibis - and I still remember how we thought: 'That's nice of Pam, most people put their assistants in regular rooms.' Until someone who had known Pam and her quirks for a while told us: 'Nonsense - Pam just wants to make sure that no one is in the rooms next to her, that's why she always books them too.' That impressed me a lot back then. It still impresses me a lot.

I remember imagining Pam as a kind of hybrid of Anna Wintour and Cruella de Vil: an awe-inspiring woman in sunglasses and stilettos, dragging a mink cape behind her while assistants scurry around her servilely. With a commanding aura and a metallic voice that can launch or end careers with a mere hand gesture - and such a woman certainly doesn't wear just any perfume. Years later, when I thought of Lancôme's L'Autre Ôud - even though it's not that exclusive and expensive - I thought of Pam again, because L'Autre Ôud is like Pam: dramatic, high-strung, and difficult, yet so sufficiently imbued with quality that one allows it to be just as it is. A commanding rose reigns over bitter, almost confrontational resins, lacking the faintest effort for balance or softness. Its playful sweetness has something calculating, almost lurking about it; its oud is bitter, serious, and fascinatingly cold, forming a uncompromising, strong scent that has nothing bad about it, yet still doesn't reach my heart.

Conclusion: it later turned out that Pam was a pale figure in department store jewelry and flat shoes, who was reluctant to be approached and who obviously heard voices when she wasn't alone on the floor - neither someone you would have suspected of having leadership strength, let alone the dramatic lady from my imagination. Nevertheless, I thought of L'Autre Ôud.

The only one from this collection I can see a man wearing! It is so strong that almost burnt my skin! It’s a well blended oud-rose combo!

Beautiful middle eastern style mukhallat perfume. When I wear this, people always ask what it is I have on. A crowd pleaser indeed.

A resinous-spicy cuddle Oud that has settled comfortably on the rugged leather sofa. Rose is only subtle. Smoky + balsamic. Linear. Good.

Sweaty rose. Saffron is very human. Leather with a rugged aura. Always different, many facets, that's why it's mega interesting. Chameleon!

Very well blended animalistic oud. Fresh rose note. The most authentic rose oud in the upscale mainstream, better than many niche fragrances.

This is the sexiest oud scent of all time. Maison Lancôme has created a masterpiece with L'Autre Oud. One of the more affordable N. fragrances. :)

Spicy-resinous rose-oud oriental with animalic-leathery hints and an earthy-dirty undertone.

The slightly different Oud scent. Completely without Oud. Not a drop. Dusty. With oriental influences. Jesus del Pozo does it better.

Rose-Oud combinations are becoming more appealing to me. But this one has way too much oud. Overwhelmingly resinous, almost musty in the end.

For me, this is the best oud-leather-rose scent. Oud is rich here, not listed in the pyramid, but I definitely smell leather.
