Oxford's popular younger brother
Blue Suede Shoes. A famous song by Carl Perkins, also performed by the King of Rock and Roll, Mr. Elvis Presley. Like Elvis, Blue Suede Shoes is cool, versatile; suave. A mass appealer, the cool cat, sex magnet — one that can fit in perfectly with society and can also break from the norms.

Although this beautiful blue flacon may have you thinking this is an aquatic, it's not. Also, despite the name and according to the notes, it's not a leather fragrance but I definitely am getting the smell of a nice cut of leather. This is joined gradually with vetiver, patchouli, and woods as I inhale deeply.

Blue Suede Shoes has the Oxford DNA but with a youthful twist. This is Oxford's cool younger brother, one that likely skips the ties and leaves a few buttons open instead. This scent to me is pre-war Elvis. Youthful Masculine.

By no means just a regular shower gel scent
I became curious about the fragrances from Ugolini through some YouTubers.
My favorite fragrance direction is fresh aquatic scents like Acqua di Giò Profumo Parfum with a masculine touch that are by no means sweet but have good performance.
Blue Suede Shoes should also be one of those. According to many statements, it doesn’t offend but is well-received by almost everyone. So I quickly drove to my perfumery in Düsseldorf to test it. To cut a long story short, I bought it two hours later.

Now to the scent:
Upon spraying, I was immediately thrilled by the woody, fresh note. Cold lavender with a hint of pepper. Delightfully fresh that you automatically take a deep breath. Patchouli joins in and makes it something special. Most people who have tested this scent keep talking about it being a cheap, unremarkable shower gel scent.
That’s a statement that annoys me just as much as those always-criticized Aventus clone scents. One might consider that Creed has managed to create a new fragrance direction with Aventus. That’s why many scents might smell similar to Aventus. Not because they want to constantly copy it. The same goes for the so-called shower gel scents.
It annoys me to describe a scent so simply, and I’ll just say briefly: “Then use a good shower gel!” Because I use ones that I like and are by no means boring. Especially since you feel so fresh and clean afterward. For some, probably a “no go”! ….

Back to the scent, which in my eyes is by no means boring. The dry down is particularly special. Caused by the tonka bean and cedarwood. I find the scent perfectly balanced and rounded. Notably, it is truly a compliment getter!!! Many of my friends, women, and colleagues found it incredibly good. Some even wanted to order it right away. And I think rightly so.
It fits every occasion and every age.
Its performance leaves nothing to be desired. The scent easily lasts 12 hours on me. On my clothes, even longer. And that for a regular shower gel scent.
The sillage is also impressive. You will definitely be noticed in the room. Don’t worry. A true blind buy candidate….

The bottle is good. No high-quality cap in wood look. But that’s not a problem. The lettering is on a leather patch, and this was stuck onto a simple blue bottle with a golden sprayer.

I can definitely recommend this scent blindly. A niche fragrance with mainstream vibes.

One for the money.
Some names of perfumes must be taken literally, while others should be viewed more as an inspiration for a particular situation or a certain feeling in life. This is also true for Blue Suede Shoes, as it is not really a typically blue (aquatic/shower gel) scent - at least compared to some designers - and leather is not a central note either. Instead, this aromatic fougère is meant to embody a bit of rock 'n' roll with the contrasts found here.

In the top notes, bergamot and lavender are rather subtle, while the spicy freshness is more pronounced, particularly characterized by a minty, cooling effect that fortunately does not really remind one of anise. Additionally, the sweetness of coumarin (tonka bean) and a dry, woody note (cedar) are immediately noticeable, giving Blue Suede Shoes a certain complexity without being too heavy. Over time, as usual, the freshness fades and apart from a bit of lavender, nothing remains from the top notes, and the fragrance shifts even more towards the woody direction, with patchouli becoming more prominent, adding a darker, more mature facet to the composition.

The eponymous song written by Carl Perkins and turned into a worldwide hit by Elvis Presley I personally find quite overplayed and somewhat annoying - I feel the same way about a component that can be distinctly filtered out here: A very specific piercing, synthetic-woody fragrance ingredient has crossed my path several times - examples range from Persil liquid detergent to Xerjoff's Alexandria II - and its penetrance has ruined quite a few perfumes for me. However, with Blue Suede Shoes, I must say that this quality is just about at an acceptable level.

Otherwise, I quite like the fragrance and find it very balanced, although I wouldn't wear it in the height of summer because the freshness isn't persistent enough for that. As is often the case: Don't trust the short paper test, but rather smell it on the skin for a longer time. (Many fragrances smell fresher/brighter on paper strips.) With a more natural cedar note, Blue Suede Shoes would be quite interesting for me; as it stands, it feels a bit too little for a niche fragrance.

Successful from the Niche
Herb-fresh crowd-pleaser that is wearable all year round. Anise and sandalwood dominate the scent, it lifts the spirits and the feedback from those around has been decidedly positive so far. Finally something from the niche again that doesn’t annoy, meaning it doesn’t smell sticky-sweet or like oud. Both thumbs up!

The Blue Suede Shoes to spray on?
I ordered this perfume blindly, perhaps it was the thought of the eponymous Elvis song. The bottle looks very elegant, now it just needs to hold the same for the content, was my first thought, so I quickly sprayed it on. At first, I smell a large dose of spices; I guess it's pepper as the sharp note, but this note is immediately softened by a gentle vanilla note, taking away the sharpness. I also clearly perceive the lavender note. The bergamot note is present as well, but only as a background presence. I would classify the scent as fresh sweet. Blue Suede Shoes is not a perfume from which wonders should be expected; it is more of a versatile tool for the office or everyday life when the temperature outside is below 25 degrees. Blue Suede Shoes somehow captivated me; it is classic yet simple, not overloaded with many fragrance notes. I think Elvis would have liked this perfume very much, timeless and classic like his music.

Generic blue-fougere w/ synthetic opening, overpriced compared to other designer and entry-level niche options. Suede in name only.

This fragrance is good and in my opinion the most mass appealing one of Roberto Ugolini. But therefore also the least special.

Close to the shower gel vibe, but with a bit more herbal-spicy notes and a resinous-woody undertone: ultimately dispensable.

Rich, dense lavender tincture blended with a chronically cheerful patchouli-benzoin, on me with a hint of hot latex.
