A great, powdery scent

Upon applying "Magnetic Musk | Hugo Boss," I was immediately impressed and also thought of Dior Homme Intense (2011) right away. The longevity on my skin is about 11 to 12 hours with a successful sillage.

The top note starts very powdery, spicy, and sweet with a lot of beeswax. In the background, I also catch a hint of citrus from lemon peels. The heart note remains powdery with floral and creamy nuances of iris, violet, and tonka beans. The base offers woody hints of sandalwood with a touch of musk.

Yes, Magnetic Musk is truly a great little fragrance. Many thanks to Carsten for the sample.

The Beekeeper

A three-year-old fragrance from a well-known designer label that has neither a review nor a statement is somewhat surprising. I was also taken aback when I recently found this more exclusive Boss line at Galeria an der Kö in Düsseldorf. It was beautifully presented with photos and chic "scent sticks," but somehow almost inconspicuous.

After all, there is quite a large selection of creations in this line, and almost all of them are indeed more than decently made. In particular, this Magnetic Musk has a stunning attraction, as it releases a good amount of beeswax alongside the slightly sweetened musk that gives it its name. It comes across as dry, somewhat bitter, and a bit animalistic, and one might think that there is also some suede leather involved - but that's not the case.

The powdery iris initially strongly reminds one of Dior Homme Intense in this combination, but the more the wax comes through, the more one has to chuckle at how misled one feels.

Sage plays the least significant role among all the notes. The gentle tonka bean and a bit of sandalwood unfold a little better towards the end. The most dominant accents are set by beeswax, iris, and musk. All in all, it is very high quality, unusual, and brilliantly executed. Wearing it gives one a soothing and elevated feeling, and I think Magnetic Musk is nearly perfect, especially in autumn and winter. But have we already talked about the price?

Boss charges over €200 for the The Collection series as a 100 ml EdP. This raises the question of whether this is bold or already megalomaniacal. For my taste, not only should the projection and longevity have been more opulent, but also the bottle, which is reminiscent of the Bottle series and features a significantly thicker glass base and a more textured, higher-quality label, but otherwise does not signal that one wants to compete in the expensive perfume segment. This could be considered understatement or purism, but I would have wished for a more creative bottle for The Collection series.

The olfactory result should not fail due to its success, but I am a bit skeptical about that. So one can be curious to see if something else will come...
