A clean, aldehydic, powdery, musky beauty that turns into a hideous, indolic jasmine beast

According to the Kayali and Sephora websites, Musk Bouquet has notes of solar jasmine, Ylang-ylang, pink pepper, Turkish rose, vanilla musk, praline, sandalwood, vetiver, and the Kayali signature accord. Musk Bouquet is a nice, classic floral with a sunscreen flair. Unfortunately, the jasmine note is just not the kind of jasmine that I get along with. It’s too indolic for my tastes, and starts going from lush to… rank.

Musk Bouquet opens with a loud, lush jasmine note and creamy Ylang-ylang with a tinge of a sunscreen scent. Quickly, a grand explosion of bright, aldehydic, clean, powdery, and soapy vanilla musk bursts forth like a mushroom cloud of vanilla scented body powder that causes sheets of white musk floral soap to rain from the sky as debris. At the start, Musk Bouquet reminds me so much of Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds, but softer.

Despite this promising start, in the first hour of wear, I start catching whiffs of something foul and nauseating. Confused, I sniff the air and realize oh my, it’s me!!!! I recognize that scent. It’s the sort of jasmine that I strongly dislike. The sort of jasmine that makes my stomach turn inside out. Yes indeed, the jasmine in Musk Bouquet is too indolic for my tastes. I ended up having to scrub Musk Bouquet off. Unfortunately, every time I have tried to revisit Musk Bouquet, the fragrance has met the same fate - aggressively scrubbed off my skin with the nearest oil and a paper towel.

i'm through 2 out of 4 the kayali freedom set and I'm not in love with it. Reading the notes, I would have guessed this one would not be my favorite, and that was correct, so please feel free to take my criticism with a grain of salt.

The first whiff gave a strong sunscreen vibe-- I'm starting to think "solar" in a notes list is just brands' way of saying it smells like sunscreen. After the first 30-60 seconds the jasmine started to come out and I was a bit more at peace with it, but it's been 25-30 mins since I sprayed it and I can't smell it anymore, so I can't tell you what it turns into after that. Granted I'm using the sample bottle, so the sprays are small and totally possible I undersprayed (especially as I was put off by that first whiff).

If you like this but want something stronger, or if you're looking for a solar white floral, give dedcool's Sunlit Blooms a try -- I think it fills a similar niche and performs better.

What’s the purpose of this collection? I got the samples to try and they’re all basic (not in a rude way) and really add nothing new to the market.

I probably don’t have anything new to add to this review either because as others have mentioned, the jasmine here just leans very mature. The perfume is powdery white florals with a very creamy sweet touch that I have smelled many times before. I’m not the typical Kayali customer but I decided to sample this collection because musky perfumes are in my top 3. However, this perfume is not musky at all, it’s just a creamy soft scent.

Sweet, powdery jasmine paired with the usual Kayali vanilla and musk

And I'm back! It's been awhile since I've written any reviews about Kayali fragrances since I'm not a fan of oud (and her recent launches have been all about that), but with the Freedom Collection, I was curious to gest back to it. This is the first of the Freedom Collection perfume that I'll be testing out (will be going through them in alphabetical order).

I've heard people saying that this one was a vintage fragrance with some saying it was a grandmother-like scent (I will not be going over the whole debate about using "grandmother" as a term to describe a fragrance). I have to admit I'm on the same side. I'll spare you much of the review by saying this: it smells outdated and this might be due to the mix of florals, powderiness and muskiness I'm getting. If I break it down, jasmine is the strongest floral among them although I did get some ylang-ylang somewhere during the first few seconds of this fragrance. Jasmine is floral, sweet and slightly powdery. I do smell some sort of fresh rose somwhere in there, but honestly, I wouldn't be able to pick it apart from the other notes without looking at the listed notes. As it moves on from the floral aspect, it starts getting more muskier as time passes, with a sweet powderiness that seems to further grow bigger. The drydown is the usual Kayali one you'll be getting from a lot of her fragrances: musky and sweet.

This won't be making it into my collection as I'm not a big fan of powdery florals and strong musk. It's nice, but I don't find it unique or amazing. I'd say it's an okay fragrance, pretty innocent for work or for going out on errands. The longevity seems pretty good (Kayali fragrances do tend to stick around longer on my skin) and the projection is fine, although I was expecting it to be much stronger than it is. The scent bubble isn't that big. Oh well, on to the next!

A note on the Freedom Collection set:
I've learned from my Vacay in A Bottle blind purchase mistakes so this time I only bought the sample set and not the mini bottles. Reviews on social media have been lukewarm at best and although I'm always hyped to try out Kayali fragrances, I've become more strict about which fragrances enter my collection to avoid any waste and money ill-spent.

Based only on the fragrance notes of all four Freedom Collection fragrances, I've listed what I think will be my order of preferences : Musk Matcha| 45, Musk Latte | 41, Musk Bouquet | 27, Musk Santal | 34. At the end of the fourth review, I'll be seeing how I rank them after having tested them all.
