traumatizing, polarizing — at best, gorgeous & at worst, toxica
I just tried to update the stupid review and the website glitched — y’all really need to work on that because I’m tired of this happening…it happens all the time.
Anyway, here’s my updated review. I don’t have the energy to be fun about it anymore. Here is what I said simply:
I had two different experiences with a decant versus a full bottle. The decant was fun and smelled great. There was green, there was a jammy rose (which was the first time I liked this note, ever) that added a complementary softness and then everything sparkled through the dominant fig.
The bottles were night and day, cousins thrice removed, and it caused me to grow very frustrated. Truly nature versus nurture.
The juice in the full bottle was dark and employing someone on another site described it as medicinally Sweet and cloying and that is the exact experience I had as well. It honestly gives bug spray for an infestation.
It’s really frustrating that for such an expensive indulgence companies cannot take the time to ensure their formulas are consistent and or the notes are stable. It is bizarre to have such polarizing experiences with the same perfume. This is also happens to me with DS and Durga cowgirl grass. A true shame because it takes a lot for me to like a perfume and I really enjoyed these two but then had disgusting experiences the second time around.

The decant was so lovely, green and dainty. She served something i had never smelled before, and I wanted another platter. But after i got a full size bottle, I wasn’t feeling the same. I wondered if I was too rash with my decision.
I kept feeling overwhelmed by the scent and I felt that coworkers were offput by it…they thought it was a male’s cologne (namely our misogynistic boss) but I came to realize it may have been me.
So basically, while my decant is young and dumb and full of fun, the juice in my full bottle is darker, heavier, and more cloying. She demands attention and she doesn’t care who is hurt. I can see how they are sisters and not twins.
I don’t think this is a dupe or a fake, especially because I purchased it on a reputable site. But I can’t help but feel that this relatively new bottle is a bit harder to wear—a VERY light hand doesn’t cut it. I can smell the decant in there but there are a lot more layers. I just can’t put a name to what they are..
The decant has a small nozzle with an almost defective spray (which seems to be a common occurrence with DecantX). The YSL atomizer is stately and there is definitely nothing affecting her pipes. Even one touch can soak the skin if you spray from a close distance.
I was unable to make this work for me. I was getting really intense headaches so I gave it to my mom. She smelled it and she liked it. I do think the other bottle works best for an older woman and possibly a different body chemistry than mine.
