Guidance in watercolour rose
When the announcement for an EXTRAIT of Guidance came out, I was both confused and intrigued. An extrait of an already very powerful and *nuclear* bomb of a scent? Is Amouage trying to off us all? What’s going on Mr. Bisch??? I wanted to wait to smell it, but as word of it really started going around, I ordered myself a sample to try.

To preface, I am an avid lover of all things Guidance Eau de Parfum. From the scent, to the baby pink bottle, to how strong and polarizing she is, and how she always gets me complimented, she is one of my truest loves. And then I got to sniff her calmer, rosier, smoother sister, and my love for the original hasn’t changed, but exponentiated. Guidance 46 is as I described: the original in watercolour rose. 46 has a much more prominent fresh floral scent profile, while keeping lots of the fruitiness in the top, and vanilla + woody/spiciness in the base. It’s as if you painted a bottle of Guidance in watercolor, sat in the middle of a bushel of multicolor roses. It’s so incredibly stunning that’ll it’ll stop you dead in your tracks.

The longevity is still right up there with the original, but I’d argue and say it lasts even longer somehow, with still a very strong sillage. Although, the sillage isn’t as intimidating and “loud” as the OG. While both scents can be worn year round, I’d say 46 is more appropriate for the spring and summer, while the OG is our fall / winter performer. And while the scent is VERY expensive, I think it’s worth every single penny it costs. Happy to have both in my collection, for if without the original, we would have never gotten Miss 46.

Fruitier, rosier, smoother and creamier than the original Guidance
I was waiting the right moment to write an in depth review of this scent since it deserves all my pationate attention. I was thinking as well which kind of approach I will take to this new flanker and I decided to compare it to the original "Guidance | Amouage" since so many people are curious to know the differences and the similarities. In the same time I will describe the scent itself. I don't understand at all the hate, low scores and underrate from the people who didn't get the free bottles or samples, it's unprofessional and childish. It's funny to see when the same formula in the reviews is repeated for each fragrance that is given out as PR bottles. Is it really the truth that all those perfumes are bad? I don't think so, like all those are not good. Whether you love or not the perfume should have nothing to do if it has been given for free for other people or not. By the way I didn't get the free bottle.

Guidance 46 opens up with the familiar unique aroma from the original one. It's just much richer and opulent with sweeter, more fruity and more natural Pear, like added attractive and pretty fresh natural rosy scent as well thanks to the Rose water in it. It has a pampering creamy and nutty texture from Bitter Almond and with muted Frankincense it's not airy and "enormous" like "Guidance | Amouage" . Because of that the scent doesn't fill the whole room but it makes an irresistible and seductive bubble around you with a sillage which is still well noticeable. The peppery kick is missing from Guidance 46 . Toned down Frankincense makes Guidance 46 more versatile and easier to wear in the public areas or at the office since it doesn't bother the people around you like the original maybe does. The additional earthiness which is found in "Guidance | Amouage" more than Guidance 46 is because the Saffron is more present there due to the amount of the total notes. In the base of Guidance 46 there is an added Ambrette which can be also an ambery and slightly animalic scent, but here it gives a soft musky feeling instead with a fruity Pear aroma which complements the significant fruity character of the fragrance. Simplified this extract version is fruity floral with woody base but musky kind of softness makes it intimate as well while the original is based more on Frankincense and ambers with a fruity touch. If "Guidance | Amouage" makes you smile and hugs everyone around you Guidance 46 hugs tightly you instead spreading the gentle warmth, deliciousness and happiness around you as well. I used to call "Guidance | Amouage" as a happy mood, uplifting scent and I would say that Guidance 46 gives me a total olfactory satisfaction.

Guidance 46 continues the same kind of style than other exceptional extracts like Jubilation 40 , Honour 43 , Reflection 45 for example. It's more complex than the original with added notes. It's polished until the perfection and sharp edges has been rounded. It's in every kind of way utterly smooth and luxurious. Wheather you like the original ones or these extracts more is just a subjective opinion and which characteristics you prefer. The projection of original ones can easily be too much for many so in that case an extract would be a great choice. The longevity of Guidance 46 is around 10-12 hours and I didn't try it on clothes because of an oil concentration. I wanted to because it would have been nice to compare the difference with the original one which stays on clothes for many days.

And then in the end we have the question: which one and is it redundant to have both? As I had the original first my opinion is that Guidance 46 is not redundant. It's so gorgeous and special that I definitely want to have it. But if you don't already have either I advise you to test the both of them and decide which one you prefer. They are not the same at all but of course they share a lot as well. I think that the more trained is your nose the more differences you will notice. Imo the original one is more unisex and 46 is more feminine because of the delicate yet rich rosy aroma. About the price I don't say anything since it's not the most important for me at all. If I love the scent and it's a top quality I don't care about the price. Anyway the price difference between these two is justified and the hype is real.

Thank you for reading.

All that gas for what?
After the immense success achieved by Amouage for going into the cookie cutter mainstream with the original Guidance Eau de Parfum (and subsequently with Love Delight), the corporate warlords are back to sell you the extrait concentration for the low-low price of €490/100ml. So what are you getting here that you don't get in the original Guidance Eau de Parfum?

Official sample purchased from Jovoy, opinions on an in-doors test with 4 sprays on the right hand.

The scent opens very strong, but not as nuclear as the original. The product clearly smells adjacent to the original Guidance Eau de Parfum and in the first minute, I am already thinking that it achieves nothing as a flanker just like how "Alexandria II Anniversary | XerJoff" provided very little new to the original "Alexandria II (Parfum) | XerJoff". The leading accords in Guidance 46 remain sweet-floral and the creamy qualities are still there. The fruitiness has clearly been toned back as the scent doesn't come off as generic as the original with its peachy tan lotion vibe.

The first difference that I spot is the spiciness in the first ~15 or so minutes which is a note that I recognize from Lineage. When smelled up-close, there is a hint of oriental here. This is what you'd expect an Amouage fragrance to smell like if they wanted a semi-mainstream fragrance as it has that complex touch that Amouage is known for. Another difference comes from the cistus note which brings a very unexpected masculine aromatic quality in the base of the fragrance, akin to some of Roja's fragrances. It even gave me moments of minty mojito underneath the standard sweet-floral-creamy Guidance profile. After 1-1.5 hours I get mild hints of incense, but just like the previously mentioned mojito aspect, this isn't worth anything more than a slight mention.

The main differences between Guidance 46 and Guidance Eau de Parfum are that G46 is significantly (!) less fruity in the top, heart & drydown. The cistus brings that aromatic touch on-skin which was definitely not there in the original. Performance is severely reduced with G46 as the sillage is mediocre (and it could even be poor in all honesty) which is nothing new for Amouage extraits (see: Jubilation 40, Dia 40). Longevity also appears to be massively overstated here on Parfumo as it is misrepresentative to count all those hours of intimate performance towards longevity, given many people buy the original Guidance Eau de Parfum for the strength of the scent and getting the C-word.

If this wasn't a PR piece, nobody would be buying this over the original Guidance outside of those seeking a mildly more mature take on the Eau de Parfum version.

Love as the EDP
Guidance is a perfume that I absolutely adore, and of course I couldn't resist trying its extract version.
Well what can I say...I was really impressed, I loved it immediately because, quite absurdly, it completes those “ lacks ” (if you can call them that) that Guidance gave me.
It enhances the traits I like best, the slightly sharp and spicy notes, the freshness and sensuality of the rose, so much so that, don't think me crazy, I layer it with its Eau de Parfum version.
True, the sillage is not as wide-ranging as Guidance in Eau de Parfum (there is a technical reason for this, but I would be at risk of being too long), but it is a truly long-lasting fragrance on skin, one that stays all day long and gives a unique allure.
Obviously present in my collection, it makes me feel beautiful, confident, and extremely feminine.
“Narcissus” painted by Caravaggio, also one of my favorite paintings.

Rosier and better blended than the EDP
Like the original EDP, Guidance 46 is so gorgeous. I get pear, pepper, and rose water at the top. Then a hint of menthol, salty ambergris, rose, and a little saffron. Rose, pear, and menthol (Akigalawood) persist through the drydown, and vanilla and sandalwood are revealed as well. There are a few differences between 46 and the original EDP: 46 features more rose and rose water, less pear, less ambergris, and a more muted sillage than the EDP. It is more well blended in my opinion than the EDP. They're different enough that Guidance lovers may want both. I think 46 is in the lead by a nose, just because the pear in the original is so over the top, I wonder if I'll get tired of it.

Less fruity-sweet, more floral-creamy. Not as generic: some spiciness & some aromatic-bitter feel in the base. Quieter & rather poor value.

Modern Amouage is very meh, esp the extraits. Not as good as everyone says it is. typical fruity “girl’s” scent. Boring.

Smells like juicy pear and sweet caramel, nutty heaven. Lasts forever like all of the Amouage extraits and fills a room in 1 spray.

Burns my nose smelling it from the bottle. So strong I'm honestly terrified to put it on my skin. There will no washing it off if I hate it

In my skin, Guidance 46 smells almost 10% identical to the OG. If you have the original, you don’t need this.

Amouage Guidance 46 is a stunning update to the classic. The Pear and Rose notes are much more pronounced compared to the OG.

Exceptional scent. Here Bisch surpassed himself. Complex, lovely, three-dimensional, rounded and soft compared to the OG

For what it is, the price is dumb, but as a mass-appealing girly scent, this is manageable.
