Is this a joke?
It is going to be a struggle for me to say anything about the fragrance itself, because Aoud Extraordinaire serves as an insult to the intelligence of niche fragrance hobbyists all around the world. Strap in, this is going to be a slaughter.

Before even spraying the fragrance, the price tag of €720/100ml sets the expectation high, yet when putting it on, you are met with off-the-charts levels of disappointment. Aoud Extraordinaire opens as a very generic fruity fragrance with a creamy-sweet structure and some floral nuances. Essentially, the scent is adjacent to the fruitchouli profile traditionally worn by women and does not have any separable edge in the air over fragrances that can be found for as little as €20-30. Relative to these cheapies, the Roja will obviously outshine them for blend quality, given the lack of synthetic edges, but that clearly is not enough to warrant purchasing this product. There is no significant evolution as the scent dries either: the fruits eventually are equaled by various floral notes with vanilla, musk and white florals making up the ultimate base structure. Like many other products in the line, the oud qualities here are not well pronounced and the scent has zero oriental/woody feel for several hours.

Accords: fruity-creamy-sweet-floral

But most of all, what Aoud Extraordinaire showcases is that their feminine fragrances within the Aoud line need influencers pushing it over social media. Much like Enigma Aoud Parfum, this fragrance was sent out in PR as it was predictable it would be a flop. Now those same people are not only trying to upsell us on this dead average product, but also on fruity-floral fragrances being unisex - when has this category ever been viewed as something to be sold to male consumers? That makes it impossible to take Roja's marketing outlet seriously, because the concept of integrity is completely lost on these dishonest parties. Ultimately, we have a product that, albeit not synthetic, still suffers from numerous amounts of products: generic profile, no blend upside, very high price point, mediocre performance (intimate-to-arms length sillage + 5-6 hour longevity), being pushed by people who'd never buy it etc.

But perhaps the most puzzling part is why would the brand even put this out? Roja appears to be trying to target female consumers with a majority of their releases in 2024 (Elysium pour Femme in 2 concentrations, Isola Sol, Aoud Extraordinaire and maybe even Lost in Paris), yet nothing is sticking. Creed is trying to diversify their portfolio in the same way, but brands should never forget the hand that feeds them - when the core of the catalogue is driven by scents targeting the men's market, there's only so much to be achieved with a pivot like this and if you do pivot, it needs to be a home-run, not a three-and-out like the one Roja has here.

Not only fruity scent but a dense, vintage style rich floral with Ambery base
This fragrance has received very mixed reviews, and some of the reasons I completely understand, some I don't. Of Roja's latest releases, Isola Sol (you can find my review) and this one are the ones that have caused a lot of emotional turmoil. I think the biggest reason in both cases is the name, although personally, the name Isola Sol fits the scent quite well (more on that in the review of that particular scent). Aoud Extraordinaire , on the other hand, as a name, gives a completely different picture of what the fragrance contains and if you are very inexperienced with Roja's fragrances, then I understand the disappointment. However, if you consider the other fragrances in the Aoud collection, then Aoud as a word in Roja's fragrances has never meant a heavy, challenging Oud, so why would it hear? Take Enigma Aoud Parfum for example, which is one of the most beautiful and elegant clear fruity fragrances: the amount of Oud in it is also minimal, but just right to bring the necessary depth to both the peachy scent and the peachy soft powdery character. I think the bigger issue is the word "Extraordinaire" since for many of us Chypré Extraordinaire is the best Chypre in that style, in that category ( Diaghilev Parfum , Femme (1989) Eau de Toilette , Mitsouko Extrait , Jubilation 25 Woman Eau de Parfum etc.) and the combination of those two words "Aoud" and "Extraordinaire" made many of us think and imagine some very special Oud scent, possibly distinctly oriental, and it led to huge disappointments and emotions because it wasn't.

Aoud Extraordinaire opens up with an intense cocktail of fruits, with only Pineapple clearly standing out first. It also blends in very quickly with the others. As the fragrance develops, the clear fruity aroma fades slightly and the huge floral bouquet typical of Roja takes the stage. The heady scent of the flowers remains under the fruity veil for an hour, yet creating an elegant and adult style to the scent from the beginning. When you add to this a complex base, where depth and a subtle darkness as well as softness and sweetness come from many notes, it is very difficult to find a similar concoction (or even close) in existing fruity fragrances. I am happy to get suggestions, because fruity fragrances have been difficult for me precisely because they are either too youthful, too clearly juicy fruity, too simple and/or shockingly synthetic. Most often, fruity fragrances combine all of the things I mentioned. If there is something comparable, it is unlikely to be at the cheapest end of the spectrum, and I personally don't need it, because quality rarely comes cheap.

If this fragrance were a simple fruity scent, if it only had the top notes with some musky base, then it would be generic. However, this fragrance is much more than that. There are no three dramatically clear phases in the fragrance, but there is usually nothing more in Roja's fragrances, but all the scents are skillfully, elegantly and ingeniously mixed. However, those phases are always distinguishable. If you are familiar with Roja, Aoud in the name or Oud in the ingredients does not necessarily make the fragrance an Oriental, so I will mention it now so that this does not cause disappointment or misunderstanding. Don't expect overly sweet or clear Cotton Candy or Caramel either since they don't perform in that kind of way. Caramel for example is not like in Lost in Paris . As the fragrance progresses to the 1.5 hour mark, the abundance of fruit fades into the background, while still maintaining the irresistible tropical undertone like the vibrant and luminous vibe as well that fruits give to this style of fragrance.

The scent is also extremely unisex, thanks to the deep, intense and Ambery base, and it is not too sweet at all, thanks to the floral heart. On my husband's skin, the leather and Vetiver come through more than on mine, which partly changes the experience of the scent. The texture is extremely thick but I don't find it creamy. Fruity scents can also easily be made too strong, making simple scents tawdry and somehow girly, while such a dense and rich scent like this would feel suffocating, even though the quality is the best. Although at first I myself thought that the scent should project more, this way it is more versatile, especially for the work environment.

Personally, I love this luxurious, golden, energetic scent and especially the phase it develops into after an hour, which lasts 6-7 hours. On clothes, the scent lasts forever. Fruits are always welcome in my fragrances, as long as they are not clearly edible or drinkable and are part of a more complex blend like they are here. This is definitely not that typical feminine fruity scent and if you are sampling this one, please give it at least a couple of full wears. The magic really happens when the aroma of all those fruits fades. First, this didn't made that kind of wow effect like for example Turandot Parfum , Roja Dove Haute Parfumerie (2019) , Chypré Extraordinaire or some others did but there is not this kind of scent in Roja's catalog so after the initial astonishment I started to like it a lot and I found there some kind of vintage style complexity that you find in 80s floral fragrances.

Thank you for reading and I hope you liked my review. You find my IG on my profile if you like to follow.

Fruity/Oud concoction

Non- offensive, fruit and oud concoction with lots of aldehydes.

For lovers of fruit, and oud.

Middle east meets french perfumery.

A great perfume for daily wear

Superb presentation as always, and i look forward for new releases.

Maybe bolder?

Either way, value for money is ok, but a bit on the expensive side

Sooooo much more expected....
Hello everyone,

when I heard X weeks ago that the fragrance was coming soon, my anticipation was really mega! A friend of mine (Roja lover for over 10 years) immediately bought a bottle and I got a larger sample to test.

My expectations - foreword:

I am a friend of certain fragrances of the brand, although many of their origins lie in the past and my batches are usually a little older.... (another topic), but when I read the name Aoud Extraordinaire I was very enthusiastic about it.

Why?

For one thing, I am a great friend of the old (!) and classic Aoud and the old (!) Chypré Extraordinaire. And I was hoping that they would combine the best of both worlds...

Result + test!

My anticipation and my desire and expectation lasted until the test and I was already shocked at the first spray..., but let's leave it for xx minutes and hours and repeat this procedure x times so that I can rule out certain sources of error and form a certain opinion....

So,
many rojas start out quite similarly and this is certainly nothing new in this respect and it is also KNOWN, in the sense of citrusy, fruity and floral and this is what it does. So far so good, but in my opinion there is an already disturbing component here and it is the "artificial" and really noticeable, sometimes unpleasant sweetness.... there will probably be some people, or even some, who like exactly that, but it's not mine and I honestly find this phase unpleasant.

Then we have the floral heart note and for me it is the best phase (by far) of the fragrance. Floral, clean and the slightly fluffy musk from the base is already making an appearance. It's nothing new from the brand, but something tried and tested + good...

Now to the heart note,
and here .... well, some things were done wrong/implemented incorrectly and the name does NOT match the fragrance - I'll explain why!
When I think of Roja Aoud, I think of rose and oud and when I think of Extraordinaire, we are quickly at flowers, chypre with a twist and when we combine the two, it paints us a picture x...., right? And what do we get?

An aoud without oud - so I don't really perceive any woods. I'm not even saying that there aren't any (certainly in the framework or background), but they are never noticeable and I think that's a huge shame.

And the worse thing in my opinion is this constant and sometimes inappropriate and almost annoying sweetness, which I find inappropriate and unattractive!
And when I combine all this and then look at it and rate it, then...

- far too expensive
- Name pure marketing
- much more expected (+ desired)

H/S:

Good nothing more.

Unisex?

I see it as having more of a feminine tendency, I have to say!
When + where:

I find this very difficult, because it can quickly get on your nerves due to its noticeable sweetness... i do NOT see him in a classic office, i.e. at work. Rather outside shopping from the end of September to April!

Recommend?

PLEASE test it and then decide!
And now have a nice day/evening, or whatever you read this review, LG the Benny
_______

(Now the same as almost always - because it's true!)

Now on the subject of luxury:

As you can see in my profile, among other things, I have really smelled many fragrances and there are fragrances where you smell a certain (partly) strong synthetic and you notice quite quickly that some fragrance houses go for quantity rather than quality and there are some where you just realize "oh come on, let's put more + better in" and you can smell this at the end of the day.

Very briefly on the subject of OVP, bottle, sprayer:

I'll make it short, I give it a 10 out of 10 in each category and I know very well that tastes are very different. So if you honestly rate this with a 7 or less... - PUH. Beautiful and very valuable lid, beautiful timeless flacon design etc. .... so I find it very difficult to rate it differently and I'm not saying this because I like a brand or not!
Now a quick word on the subject of my opinion:

I am not sponsored, influenced by anyone, receive money or anything else. I approach the subject of parfumo as I am, honestly, everything else is not mine. My real personal opinion is worth a lot to me and maybe I hope ;) that you notice that. If I don't like something, e.g. OVP, bottle, sprayer or H/S, then I communicate this too!

It's that time again !!! Roja has worked its magic - once again a fragrance from the Aoud range that legitimizes a purchase!
Hello dear community,

How to start with such a wonderful fragrance is always a good question. This is particularly difficult with Roja, as 95% of the time we are presented with an incredible masterpiece of fragrance art, which is also very complex!
Typical for Roja, the start is again rocket-like. The opening is fruity, floral and has a subtle sweetness, which I find very pleasant. The main players clearly stand out, which for my nose are pineapple, peach, bergamot and plum.
After the first 15-20 minutes, the floral notes join in in a very pleasant and not too feminine way
I particularly like the combination of lily of the valley, orange blossom and jasmine. The rose, on the other hand, I perceive only slightly and subtly, which I really like, because we already know enough of a present rose from Roja! ( in my opinion )
A pleasant touch of: leather, vanilla, woods and very delicate oud also join in and complete the picture. Musk, amber and vetiver can only be slightly hinted at later in the drydown, which I find quite pleasant.
A fruity, floral touch remains throughout, which is neither too feminine nor too sweet or too sour, but is very balanced and authentic for my nose. Of course, the classic Roja DNA is and remains a concise component of this fragrance composition.... Who would have expected otherwise ? ;))
Later in the drydown, the fragrance gradually becomes woodier, deeper and less fruity. The floral notes, on the other hand, persist until the "bitter" end.

All in all, once again a very successful Roja fragrance! It is really special, striking and as the name promises: Extraordinaire!

Similarities such as the: City of Stars or "Dubai - Ajyal | Nabeel" I see little.

If then rather to "Dubai - Ajyal | Nabeel", whereby these two fragrances mentioned above can only be compared rather imprecisely, as the direction is already quite different.

Durability and sillage are very good, as with most Roja fragrances! On my skin, the fragrance lasts around 8-10 hours with around four sprays and the projection is also very good!

The price remains an issue again... It's basically the same as always, everyone has to know whether it's worth the money and whether he or she finds the price justified. In my opinion, the price here is quite exaggerated, as is typical for Roja. Yes, you get a beautiful, elegant, unique and complex work of art, but I think a few euros less would be appropriate. We are currently looking at a price of €720.00 per 100ml.

Not the absolute spearhead by Roja standards, but still a proud sum that you have to be able to afford.
All in all, I can say that there is another wonderful fragrance on the market that should appeal to every Roja lover and that many will be able to add it to their collection in the future. It's always worth a test, whether you're a Roja fan or not!
So, as always, all I can say at this point is have fun with the test and.........
Thank you for your attention and stay decent ;)
