HIGHS & LOWS
In the aftermath of publishing my 2024 rankings, Lost in Paris was the #1 scent on my sampling target list going into 2025. Driven by the huge retail price tag and the almost strictly (albeit limited) positive coverage, the expectations were firmly placed at the highest of highs, yet Lost in Paris also features significant lows.

One could argue that it is the scent's opening that makes the sale here as Lost in Paris opens as a high-quality gourmand fragrance with a very realistic sweetened/bakery style orange smell. I have seen various people compare this to the patisserie smell that Sweetie Aoud has, but I am more-so reminded of Creme Savers or products like it, i.e. the swirl candy that is half white, half orange. As I don't partake in alcohol consumption, the listed curaçao is hard for me to find and I would argue that the scent never features a boozy feel throughout the evolution.

The first negative of the scent comes when I smell it on-skin. The scent lists "mandarin orange" in the top which I suspect is the reason why the scent has some window cleaner feel to it. This particular orange note is something that I already have history with as Italian premium brand Royal Crown also used it in Celebration. Ultimately, I feel like this note gives way and isn't there 30 minutes into the drydown.

Accords: sweet-creamy-citrusy-gourmand-spicy

Subsequently heading into the aforementioned drydown, butter appears to be the primary note on which the base is structured. On-skin, the scent has a sweet-creamy-spicy structure that is not too far from THOO's signature DNA with scents like Wonderly or even scents like Spice D'Arno. This is primarily due to the opening gourmand highlights not being as relevant in the drydown, making for a very average drydown with Roja's blend quality being the only thing carrying it forward.

Performance of the scent is fairly moderate throughout (average projection within a couple meters) and while I don't think there is a scent like it in the niche market today (perhaps the closest ideas would be between Panettone and Sweetie Aoud), I do believe that the retail price tag of €1,195/100ml should justify more than just uniqueness. As much as the artistry is towards the 99th percentile of the modern niche market, Roja's history of elite blending is not visible with Lost in Paris and that is a significant shortfall of the scent. To further comment on the pricing, the scent was originally listed at Harrods with a price tag of €995 (£850) and while the brand has offered me the chance to honor that price, them not changing it is still a red flag.

While my current collection peaks at the €600/100ml price tier, I was (and remain) extremely open to entering the tier above it to make for a more distinguished collection. However, that entry point won't be here as I ultimately feel like the product doesn't align with the expectations. There are very few premium products in the market today that can successfully retain the opening highs into the drydown and to me, Lost in Paris is not one of those fragrances.

Buttery caramel treat meets the luxury
I was really looking forward to smelling such a clear gourmand scent from Roja and I knew right away that I would love it. The fact that it had been criticized was just a sure sign of the sophistication that the scent represents - I personally don’t like overwhelmingly strong one-dimensional edible scents, it has to be done with style.

The woody bed with indulgent, gentle spices and thick, cuddly Vanilla accompanied by sensual Musk and Ambergris is covered with Caramelized citruses and elegantly delicious different kind of gourmand facets. Sweet and salty nuances are dancing fluidly, seamlessly, addictively. The creamy, dreamy, buttery, silky smooth texture is incredibly attractive and elegant yet I can’t help but think about the smell of various freshly baked pastries floating in the air. The scent has a golden, bright, luminous and vibrant aura.

Simplified, this scent is a creamy, buttery toffee with a hint of mandarin wrapped in a cashmere blanket, but the scent is adult-like and dignified with a subdued performance that is not at all too weak and lasts a long time.

What comes to the fruits: I love them in fragrances, but I’m so glad that nothing but different kind of Oranges have been put into this fragrance. That makes this unique. They are so amazingly well made and this scent has the best citrus aroma along with Burlington 1819 .

I haven’t come across a similar gourmand scent that exudes luxury and opulence. That’s why I’m completely in love with Lost in Paris. This is Gourmand Extraordinaire.

Thank you for reading, I hope you liked my review and it was helpful.

Wandering into a Parisian bakery
Lost in Paris is supposed to represent a streetside crepe stand according to Roja's blurb on his website, and it does this very well. A buttery thin pancake drizzled with caramel and Grand Marnier.

The opening threw me off a little bit, it smelled weirdly sweaty or cheesy, but this faded very quickly (within like 10 seconds). I'm not sure why "Grand Marnier" wasn't included in the actual note pyramid because it is described as smelling like it on the Roja website. It gives a very good impression of that sweet orange liqueur, and makes more sense theming-wise, as a French drink, rather than curaçao, which is Carribean. EDIT: Never mind, the official website lists Grand Marnier. Not sure why Parfumo is listing it as curaçao, as they are different drinks, with wildly different connotations in terms of fragrance.

The buttery notes then appear, and really give the impression of walking into a bakery in Paris. Bready and decadent, along with the vanillic caramel making it smell like French pastries. There is definitely a floral component that is missing from the note pyramid, albeit slight, but it really rounds out the creation. The drydown is sweet, woody, and musky.

The citrus opening, sweet and smooth mid, and woody drydown really remind me of Symphonium. Although not a 1-to-1, they have the same vibe, and I feel like if you are searching for the "perfect" form of Symphonium, you might be really happy with Lost in Paris since it feels more natural, richer, and longer lasting. For me, I still prefer Symphonium because I actually like the simplicity of it. Lost in Paris goes a bit too far with the decadence.

“Lost In Christmas”
I’ve been sampling out of a 10mL for a week and a half now, with a bottle on the way. Here are my initial thoughts:

Roja has released a few fragrances on the sweeter side in the past few months with Aoud Extraordinaire, Chou Chou, and now Lost in Paris. Both Aoud Extraordinaire and Chou Chou were lackluster releases, for me. I was intrigued when Lost and Paris was released and I saw the notes. 7 of the notes in the composition are in my top 10 favorite notes.
Now to the scent. I enjoy the scent, but it doesn’t put me in the mindset in the way Roja was marketing this fragrance. I’ve never been to Paris, and never had a crepe so I can’t make a correlation there. The opening is spot on with the listed top notes though. A blast of orange hits you in the face right away. It’s more of a bitter orange than a mélange of sweet and juicy oranges. Very quickly (A couple seconds), a rum note comes through adding extraordinary warmth to the bright citrus, making it such a pleasant contrast and a very nice smell. This only lasts for 5 minutes unfortunately, and I would’ve been content if this was the linear scent through the life of the fragrance.

As this dries down, an overly sweet burnt sugar and caramel note comes through. Think of the scent of crème brûlée. I do really enjoy the butter accord as it adds a creamy, almost milky facet to the mid. If the butter accord wasn’t there to smooth this composition out, this would’ve been a mess in my opinion. It sure is a gourmand lovers dream at this point.

Now to my least favorite part of the scent. A lovely vanilla and many spices come through, making this scent come together to feel like a fuzzy, warm blanket hugging your body. Why the overdose of clove though?! The clove turns me off and is almost headache inducing at times, if I’m not fully prepared for it. It’s super heavy and is a large part of the projection, unfortunately.

On to performance. Hands down a beast of a performer and probably top 5 in my collection based on the collective longevity and projection. Every time I wore this, I could only bear two sprays as this projected heavily for 8 hours. The life of the fragrance went on for 18 hours, and both my wife and I noticed it 14 hours later when we woke up the next day. Be prepared for a beast!

Overall, I think this is a nice fragrance and is much better than Roja’s other two latest creations. However, I long for a better dry-down only because the clove can be overbearing and take over the whole dry-down. Unfortunately for us guys out there that don’t enjoy feminine scents, this does turn to the feminine side after a couple hours on skin but many will consider this unisex.

The opening is WOW, the mid is good, and the dry-down is MEH. The performance is beast mode and will contend for one of my strongest fragrances. The moral of the story is, this should be called “Lost in Christmas” as this conjures festive moments and reminds you of the warmth and love of the holiday season.

PS: This is no where near worth its retail price, nor does it belong in the prestige/purple cap collection.

Thank you for reading!

crazy
quite an interesting gourmand. i dont know what curacao is, but I am smelling something mysterious in the opening, like a poisonous sweet drink. I'm definitely getting the bitter citruses combined with the rum which smells very unusual.
under it lies a STRONG buttery caramel. imagine pouring a rum & coke with blood orange on top of your melted caramel butter mixture. if you wanna smell something you haven't smelled before, id say go look for this scent. decant gifted to me by a generous friend :)

Opens by immersing you in a French patisserie - with citrus and quality baked goods - but the base notes sadly feel muddled/watered down.

High-quality creamy orange candy/patisserie opening followed by a more generic sweet-creamy-spicy base with some stumbles along the way.

Not worth what it costs, IMO, but it is absolutely beautiful. The orange (all of them) is perfect.

Deserves the Purple stones. A deeper gourmand made by the way of Roja Dove. Bitter and dry orange smell reproduce perfectly. Boozy & classy

The tipsy blood orange treats itself to a luxurious bubble bath with a view of the Eiffel Tower. It froths clouds of vanilla and caramel.

Very gourmand: Grand Marnier, caramel, and buttery pastry. Waiter, please bring me 50 portions of Crêpe Suzette - that will be 1000 euros, please.
