Beautiful natural Jasmine
ISOLA SOL
Roja Dove 2024

People have seemed to have stereotypical expectations of this fragrance, which led to disappointed reactions. However, by taking a closer look at the notes and taking into account where the flowers in question grow and Roja's style of making fragrances, the description of the fragrance is not misleading. Tropical doesn't always mean splashy edible fruits (lastly in Roja’s perfumes) - here it means flowers, Ylang-Ylang and Jasmine, the both of them are growing in tropical regions. Roja’s style has always been classy and this scents fits into that style.

Then we move on to the fruits. Fruity notes are in the opening and I know that many was expecting to detect them clearly from the scent but those you can’t find in that way. Roja’s perfumes are always complex and rarely you can separate individual notes. He uses a lot especially Peach, you can see that note in several perfumes. But can you smell it always clearly? Mostly yes, if it’s one of the middle notes but now all the fruits are in the opening. Honestly I was still expecting more than a subtle hint of Apricot and Peach as well and I really don’t know why.

And to the third important point: the name of the perfume is Isola Sol but have you seen somewhere a mention of solar notes? I even saw someone complaining that the scent is not solar. Or what defines the word beachy? “Marine” is an accord but beachy is not, it's a term which people can imagine in very many different kind of ways.

There is an idea behind the pair Isola Blue and Isola Sol. First one is the scene on the sea: fresh air on the yacht, refreshing Coconut cocktail and water with citruses in the glass (I don’t concentrate on that now more), and the latter one Isola Sol is the scene on the beach. Bright beautiful Jasmine scent on a sunkissed skin after the swim in the crystal clear salty water. Coconut - which here reminds me immediately of the sun - is lingering around mellow Jasmine and restrained Ylang-Ylang while Neroli brings freshness maintaining the concoction from turning sweet or creamy one. Jasmine is very natural and I love so much that there is not Tuberose at all.

In this fragrance, the middle notes tell the most essential part of it. This lasts 6-7 hours an the longer it’s on the skin the softer it becomes. This is not so complex than perfumes in Roja’s other lines but it’s in the same level with those in Women’s Collection. It’s the quality which you pay for.

Top Notes: Lemon*, Bergamot*, Mandarin, Petitgrain, Apricot*, Peach*
Heart Notes: Neroli, Jasmine Sambac*, Ylang Ylang*, Coconut*
Base Notes: Pink Pepper, Cedar Wood, Sandal Wood*, Amyris Wood*, Salty Accord*, Musks, Ambroxan

I don't understand..
neither the price
nor the brand
nor the users
nor what is supposed to be special about it.

I don't know who wants to adorn themselves with this brand in wealth... The whole brand seems to me more like appearance than reality.

The notes do not indicate a masculine fragrance at any moment; the notes say white flowers with a lot of fruit. Nothing more, nothing less. And that's exactly what you get. It's interesting that men are more attracted to this brand; I hardly see a collection of women who own Roja. It must be due to the price.

The souk is flooded with offers, mainly from men, what was the hope, guys?

What it definitely is: rather feminine, reminds me in the first 10 minutes of fragrances from the 90s, opulent, striking, and extravagant. It somehow becomes slightly creamy and well-groomed. There are other ways to smell creamy and well-groomed. This is way too little for a new release from 2024.

Is it pure perfume or Eau de Parfum or can it go? Hmm.. at that price, I expect a triple extrait! Something comparable exists with The Only One Eau de Parfum Intense

Sorry for the harsh criticism, it doesn't happen often but this time it had to be said.

PS: for me, there is no fragrance that would ever justify such a price.

Something different from the Chypre King
On March 15, 2024, the fragrance could finally be ordered from Roja. The order went out the same day, as I am a big fan of "Isola Blu (Parfum) / Oligarch (Parfum) | Roja Parfums." I must admit that I had envisioned this wonderful summer scent differently. But as I have read here, expecting a hybrid of Pacific Chill and Virgin Island Water would absolutely not fit Roja Dove! However, we also do not get a classic Chypre here. I can certainly understand why the fragrance polarizes. It is simply not a typical Roja and also not a typically fresh, citrusy summer scent. However, I do welcome that Roja Dove is taking a different approach here. After all, he has created enough Chypre masterpieces!

Here, you get a floral, creamy-powdery, slightly fruity summer scent. For some, the fragrance may not be extraordinary enough. But I believe that Roja has created a "sunscreen vibe" scent in great quality. In the opening, you get a fresh citrus note, but not as "sharp" as in most summer fragrances. The floral notes are also immediately present and remain dominant throughout the entire fragrance development. The apricot, along with the coconut, adds a very light sweetness to the whole. For me, these two fragrance notes are beautifully intertwined and not "overly present." The citrus notes fade into the background relatively quickly. Light aquatic notes and a gentle base of musk and woods round off the fragrance. The entire creation comes across as very elegant, soft, and clean.

From the description, one can already see that the fragrance leans more towards the feminine side. The scent definitely needs the right wearer. I think the fragrance is quite pleasing and certainly wearable as a signature scent, but it is not a blind buy. It definitely fits better with a slightly dressier outfit, like a white summer dress or a white polo.

The longevity and sillage are really good for this type of fragrance! Also, the scent is just right for its character. So, it’s not "beast mode," but rather elegantly understated. You will be noticed, and it lasts a good 8 hours on me.

Lastly, a few words about the presentation. For me, the packaging of the fragrance fits perfectly. Watching the sunrise over the sea from an island. Capturing the first warming rays of the day, feet in the sand, while the waves gently awaken the senses. The "packaging" is reminiscent of the design of Isola Blu Parfum and is really very beautiful. The only connection I see between the two fragrances is the coconut note, which is subtly incorporated in both. Undoubtedly, they are both summer scents. The bottle and sprayer are typically Roja in the 50ml design and are a solid 10 for me. I had Isola Sol and Isola Blu Parfum standing next to each other, and it was simply beautiful. Almost as if Isola Blu Parfum got a "sister." Don’t get me wrong, the fragrance is great, certainly wearable by a man, but personally, I prefer to smell it on a woman.

Feel free to test it and make your own judgment!
Sunny regards, Micha

Good, but not good enough for many?!
After Isola Blu Parfum, I was curious about this one. And what can I say, it’s a good fragrance. I see it more suited for women, as the scent screams very loudly of jasmine! The fruity top notes are only briefly noticeable and subtle.

Many here are surely familiar with fragrances that smell like sunscreen, body lotion, or ice cream - this is one of those. A soft, white creamy scent. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but does it have to?
I am a big Roja fan but I never defend him blindly. He has many fragrances that don’t appeal to me.

Yet here we have yet another good example for our community and their expectations. Roja releases a rather linear and simple scent like this, and many say “he’s running out of ideas,” or “omg ambroxan, that’s not acceptable at this price point,” “the scent is bad” - just to name a few. And yes, the price is too high for me as well.
But often these are the same people who rate a similar scent from other brands with an 8 or higher. A double-edged sword…

But the fragrance remains solid nonetheless, and even a Roja or a Marly can be simple. Without notes of barn or leather. In my opinion, many too often let the price influence their pure scent evaluation, but that’s what the different categories are for ;)

I find that this scent smells very similar to Surfing Puerto Escondido. That one also does well - maybe the price-to-quality ratio is better there, or you simply expect less from the outset. People should not forget what luxury is or which brands count as such (want to ;)).

Now back to the fragrance:

For anyone looking for a creamy jasmine scent with subtle fruitiness and noticeable aquatic nuances, this should be a good find.

I would wear it myself, but I prefer to smell it on my girlfriend.

The longevity was more than good for both of us, it was clearly noticeable for about 8 hours.

The new bottles and the simplified design at Roja are not my thing. Nice to look at, but that’s all.

Test it and form your own opinion - many here should do that more often ;)

The probably most expensive spray sunscreen...
Hello everyone,

At this point, I just want to say that everything I share are personal impressions and thoughts...!

The scent is good and will have some fans, and I think that's great, but... FOR ME, something is missing... something special.

Why?

When I have a fragrance (or smell one) and we are TALKING about a real premium provider in the high-end sector, I also have a "subtle" expectation. In the sense that, for example, I am looking for something "niche" like the Musk Aoud or something absolutely AMAZING like, for example, the Diaghilev Parfum or the Amber Aoud Absolue Précieux.

And what do I get.... = sunscreen in a slightly floral, fruity, and naturally creamy scent. The fragrance is good, it doesn't blow me away, but it's what I expect at a minimum.

I do NOT find it disturbing, bad, or anything negative..., it just doesn't grab me.

And in my opinion, the biggest drawback is its price! Because for me, it is nothing more than the most expensive spray sunscreen I know, and I would never spend the price it costs. In that sense, I cannot make a recommendation here, just a REQUEST, please test it and do not buy it blindly.

And now, have a nice day/evening or whenever you read this review, best regards, Benny

if it cost 1/3 of its price I'd rate it much higher. It's quite pleasant easy summer scent. But for its price come on! Offensive money grab

Hmm this doesn't smell very good nor expensive. Kind of stale? There's also something sharp in the opening that bothers me.

Fruity, clean and creamy musk. Too similar to offers on the market.

Heavy on the ylang ylang. Honestly, this smells like a cheap tropical car air freshener to my nose. Hard pass.

Opens w/ a white/yellow floral combo (which fades). Prominent apricot on a spicy (patchouli?) base. ~0% solar floral. Feminine, spring-fall.

Dear Mr. Dove, just a quick question: What is this? One disappointment after another: first Elysium p. Femme, now this jasmine luxury scent.

Great scent with a lovely progression :)
The opening is a bit too feminine for me due to the fruit-flower mix.
Later it’s jasmine-heavy with a hint of coconut.
Sillage is okay.
