Summer to Spray: Perfectly Addressing the Weaknesses of the OG!
Anyone who knows Pomelo Sorrento understands the secret to this freshie’s success; a beautifully zesty, light DNA; as light and wonderfully fresh as it is, the scent dissipates before it even leaves the spray head. Performance, the big problem of the OG.
I was all the more excited about the Extrait, and I must say; for me, it's a brilliant implementation! Of course, you can find flaws here too, but you only find them if you’re looking for them. At least that's what I learned from my parents; initial comments already suggest that the scent has become "heavier" and lost this "freshness" - but real talk, we really can't please everyone anymore. There are physical realities, and these apply on a molecular level to fragrances as well. Period.
So, my dear Parfumos, I'm sorry for digressing. Now, about the scent itself, how do I perceive it?
- In the opening, you get a real blast of grapefruit, truly brilliantly executed, as if you were slicing open this cool grapefruit on a hot summer day and could still hear/feel the fizz. The juicy pomelo gives it a certain twist and individuality, simply genius! I perceive this maritime aspect to some extent, but absolutely not "salty" or "oceanic-blue," rather it swims in the background, with the main players definitely being grapefruit & pomelo.
- Then a noticeably beautiful, yet subtly held bitterness comes in from this tea accord. The fruitiness remains the main player, but is brilliantly balanced by this bitterness; a bit of spice builds up in the background; the floral notes are not distinctly perceivable from my perspective.
- In the drydown, we get what people describe as the "loss of freshness"; yes, the scent becomes deeper and this amber-woody musk base increasingly gains significance, while the citrus/fruity notes from the pomelo and grapefruit never completely disappear but slowly recede to the background. Yes, it becomes darker/heavier in the drydown, but absolutely still within the realm of a solid summer fragrance! The profile remains spring/summer, and yes, these ingredients naturally boost the longevity!
- Regarding the H/S itself; these are worlds apart from the OG; more intense in the opening, more intense in projection, and the longevity is definitely above average for a summer fragrance! Finally, the main problem of the OG has been solved, of course, everything comes at a price, but I must say I actually like this one very much.
Overall, I am very satisfied with the scent, and it not only lets you sense summer but also feel it on your skin! Magnificent for me!
