It's one of my favorite childhood memories: Every spring, my grandfather built a two-meter-high wall of "chicken wire" in the garden. First the peas would grow there and then, after harvesting them, the sweet peas would climb up. In the summer vacations, there was a beguilingly fragrant wall of flowers in the middle of the garden - beautiful in purple and red and pink and white - and above all, magically fragrant. I encountered the scent again later over a sweet cup of Earl Grey. In my nose, these scents are very close. So when I'm looking for a vetch scent, I'm actually looking for a sweet tea scent.
The
English Pear & Sweet Pea is a nice stop on my search! It starts with a very clear pear. It is freshly sliced, still unpeeled, but already very ripe. The drydown slowly brings in the beautiful summer garden: a light green-floral note that combines very harmoniously with the pear. It is not as sweet as I would have expected based on the fragrance notes. Surprisingly, I actually find it very successful! The white musk in the base note rounds off the fragrance and gives it a gentle depth.
Of course, the Jo Melone fragrance does not satisfy my Earl Grey cravings. There are no hints of bergamot or black tea here. But seek and ye shall find: You can smell tea! But rather a gently brewed green tea, which goes perfectly with the slowly fading fruitiness.
The fragrance is really fine and warm! Even though it is unisex, many men will probably not dare to wear it. Of the 155 current owners here on Parfumo, only 8% are men. That doesn't surprise me. But all I can say is: too bad for you, you're missing out! ;)
And even if it doesn't have the same olfactory appeal as my grandpa, I can only recommend giving this understated beauty a chance! It's worth a sniff. And in the meantime, I'll continue my search for the perfect Grandpa Earl Grey Vetch ..
