Cool, Well-Groomed Silk
Last week, I was at the drugstore to quickly take care of some last-minute errands before my vacation.
Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a new perfume brand that I had just recently read about: "Care".
I sniffed around and immediately got stuck on the first scent: Clean Silk. Clean fragrances have captivated me for some time now, and that’s exactly what this scent is: clean and well-groomed, cool and fresh like freshly laundered silk bed linens. Rarely has a name fit so well.
The brand claims to upcycle an ingredient in the perfume. I haven’t been able to research how exactly this works, but for this fragrance, it’s the rose. In times when sustainability is becoming increasingly prominent and important, this is a good development. Without hesitation, I took the scent with me, as I always like to support such concepts.
The scent itself is straightforward, rather cool and rosy fresh. It has nothing of a musty rose that’s gathering dust - it’s much more like the rose shimmering with fresh floral dew, greeting the early morning. Right after a shower, the scent corresponds to a fresh start to the day. I don’t detect cedarwood here, just a rosy base component with fruity, almost citrusy splashes.
The sillage is rather close to the body, and the longevity is decent at about 3-4 hours when considering the price. Whether this does justice to an EdP remains to be questioned.
The rectangular bottle is functional, not a piece of jewelry, but I find the size appropriate and it’s not an optical failure. There are other perfumes whose bottles are less aesthetic; here everything looks clear and pure, and the glass is said to be recycled - thumbs up for that as well.
You get what you smell here. It’s not a complex scent, has no development, isn’t a masterpiece, and still has its justification. If it feels too cool for someone, it can be beautifully layered; I layered it today with s Oliver Selected and love the result. This way, it becomes softer, warmer, and rounder, while also making the S Oliver scent fresher and sportier.
Is it a scent that you must have? No, not at all. Still, it was the second scent that absolutely had to come with me this year. Since I got it, I’ve been wearing it consistently. I like the fresh lightness without becoming too cool. And I appreciate not having spent a fortune. The availability in the drugstore is also a plus.
All in all, a scent that can happily stay. A toast to unremarkable everyday fragrances that simply make you smell well-groomed. Sometimes, understatement is just fine.
