Now I know, it's spring again.
I didn't see it for so much night
and I hadn't thought it for a long time.
Now I realize, the lilac is blooming.
How did I find the secret again?
I was deprived of it.
What has the world made of us!
I turn around, there blooms the lilac.
And thank God, He created me again,
by recreating the splendor.
To behold it awakened,
so I stand still. The lilac still blooms.
So writes Karl Kraus in 1920 and hits exactly my feeling.
Last day in Grasse, at Fragonard in the industrial area, I wait for the workshop after laborious hours on the Route de Cannes, when Fragonard's latest creation, "Lilas (2024) | Fragonard," a tribute to lilac, shimmers at me from the screen. (The first scent of this name was released by Fragonard in 1927.) Linden blossom in the top note captivates me because I love its scent in June. Black currant added, that could smell like lilac. Good idea.
I had dismissed the scent during the first testing, probably because of the currant, under "I would rather eat it." But on this day, as I have to return through the pouring rain, finding the bus in the inhospitable industrial area, I take it with me. The journey home started yesterday also inhospitable, but, as if I had sensed it, the scent, the first one I spray on myself after the days in Grasse, gives me support all day long.
The linden blossom opens with its honey-fine sweetness. The lemon looks briefly over its shoulder and is gone again, but the black currant comes with its fullness and wraps around the linden blossom's waist, a strong team.
Soon it becomes spicier, clove enters the stage, but glides back into the background and holds the door open for a radiantly fragrant white lady. Hawthorn and heliotrope are indicated. In spring, I often stick my nose into the hawthorn bushes and let myself be enchanted by their sweet scent fullness. I need to look up heliotrope, a purple-flowering plant that turns towards the sun, and is therefore called solstice or vanilla flower because it smells like that. As children, we loved to suck on the nectar of the purple flowers, a fine sweetness.
I really like the scents of winter with their green and cold-exuding aromas. The spring scents push themselves forward with their splendor. I often find it a bit difficult for a moment to deal with the radiance. But this scent has touched my heart and in the hard moments yesterday, it accompanied and comforted me. All day long. Today, on the second day of the return journey, it will again be my travel companion.
In the base, the violet blooms, creating musk freshness and a few grains of vanilla remind of the sweetness of life, to be alive, to see flowers and delicate green again after winter. This is a beautiful composition and conveys not only the scent of lilac but also the color to my inner eye. It is located in the crown chakra and stands for intuitive understanding and our connection to heaven.
After hours, fruity sweetness prevails, violet-cassis candy, creaminess. That comforts too.
The lilac blooms only for a short time and shines at us. I experience this every year again with great gratitude. With the image of the lilac bush in my mind, I marvel at the splendor of new life. The bouquet of calming, radiant, and fresh aromas of
Lilas (2024) is well balanced and lays like balm on my soul. Spring is coming, you too will rise again.
The bottle is also enchanting, but limited!
