I'm gonna make some enemies with these, but the absolute subjectivity of this hobby is what draws me in.

Acqua di Giò Profondo (2020) Eau de Parfum - I liked the regular one so I got a sample of this to try it smells like stinkbug to me, absolutely horrendous. First time I actually went and washed a fragrance off me.

Silver Mountain Water and Original Vetiver - The notes seemed like something I'd enjoy a lot but I absolutely couldn't stand both.

Never-ending Summer - after blind buying Soul of the Forest t and falling in love with it decided to get this one too and what do you know I hated it almost as much as ADG Profondo

With all these samples being disappointments it made me realize how incredibly lucky I have been with almost my entire collection being blind buys (10/11) that bring me a lot of joy. I'm never blind buying again.

PS: Can someone tell me how to link to perfumes or weather if that's even possible to do on desktop? Feel free to DM me so we keep the thread on-topic.

Hi @NotCreative, To insert a link to the perfumes, you type #then enter the name of the perfume and some options will show up of which you can choose the one you mean to show.

Hindu Kush just doesn’t work for me, quite acrid hard to stomach

Piano Santal all I get is pee, much to my chagrin Sad

Floating Forest an interesting concept, but it smells like marital strife, notes bickering back and forth

Givenchy Gentleman Eau de Toilette is so gross. Straight up animal urine.

Interlude Man smelled like an ash tray to me.

"Coven | Andrea Maack" I love green fragrances and I love earthy fragrances, but that doesn’t mean I want to smell like soil and wet grass.

Fougère Gothique - Hell is empty and all the Devils are here Eau de Parfum Almost the same story as Coven, but add in a mushroom note and make it absolutely nuclear ☢️

I am not one to say I don't dislike or hate anything. I dislike many fragrances. Can't believe it took so long for one member to mention it and it wasn't mentioned more often:

Sauvage Eau de Toilette

The absolute worst fragrance ever. It literally gives me an instant headache and blocks my sinuses. The fact it is so popular, except for the fact that salesmen have to push it, really baffles me.

Close second:

Bois Impérial Eau de Parfum

A currently hyped one that is as chemical and abrasive as Sauvage.

The next ones:

Santal 33 Eau de Parfum

Dill pickle juice on clean hamster cage wood chips.

Imitation Man

Amouage is my favorite brand and I love when they dare, but this is just terrible.

Baccarat Rouge 540 Eau de Parfum

Pegasus

Cruz del Sur II

Sicily

Another house I often enjoy a lot (Mancera), but this one I didn't even want to try it on my skin.

№ 03 - Lonestar Memories

Arabie , Bornéo 1834 and a few others from Lutens, a brand I don't like at all.

Unknown Pleasures

Definitely has to be Patchouli 24 Eau de Parfum or Black Orchid Eau de Parfum , some of the few perfumes that make me actively gag and that I didn't have the courage to put on my skin.

Besides those, I don't really like 9pm or Khamrah due to how shoved down my throat they are by influencers, only to discover two really safe "teenager" scents.

For me the number one scent I hate is arabians Tonka from montale- the synthetic oud is nauseating to me. Same goes for Afnan supremacy collectors edition. Whatever that dry down note they have in common I hate it!!!!

I went a complete 180 on Original Vetiver, not only did I get a full bottle of it, I got a second bottle from the same batch as a backup, as it's been my go-to freshie 80% of the time. Just goes to show how taste/preference can change/evolve over time.

I'm gonna add Kalan, the opening was nice but the drydown is really not my thing and it gets even worse with time.

Club de Nuit Milestone Eau de Parfum I liked Millésime Impérial but not enough to justify a full bottle, being impressed by Club de Nuit Intense Man Eau de Toilette I figured this would be enough to scratch that itch too, man was I disappointed. While CDNI smells very similar in the drydown, Milestone isn't even remotely close, it's just punchy synthetic squash and nothing else.

my most hateful:
- Versace - Man Eau Fraîche

- YSL - La Nuit de L'Homme

Self replying to my almost 1 year old post now lol but ive got some new ones now,

Santal 33 Eau de Parfum This one smells like straight up one of those car fresheners with the sort of chemical aspect, I would never spray that on my skin.

Odyssey Mandarin Sky awful awful non descript overbearing sweetness, probably among the only ones that I really cant stand at all

La Bomba smells like if you left a bag of sorted fruity candies to melt and then added some vanilla to it, overbearing sweetness and tartiness

Eros Flame I used to rock this one when I first started on the hobby but the overall drydown I just cant enjoy anymore, it almost clings to you with its vanilla and ambery claws

Scandal pour Homme

1 Million Eau de Toilette to sweet, synthetic, 16 years old toxic boyfriend back in 2000.

Le Mâle Elixir "I wanna smell seductive"- 13 years old.

Interlude Man (I know and I am sorry, maybe I need to try it more) I just genuinely dislike the oregano.

Infinity overpriced designer-like headache-monster.

Milk is a really popular scent and i have no idea why. to me it is unbearable

I feel similarly. This one makes me slightly queasy, and yet so many seem to love it. It fascinates me that we can all react to smells so differently!

Great description for Floating Forest. 😆 I found this one mildly disconcerting, for reasons I couldn't quite place.

Tested Sintra Yuk 😝!

There are quite a few nasty ones out there, but Bull's Blood (2023) is the only one that smelled nasty AND actually made me physically ill. Hats off to Imaginary Authors for that achievement!

0

I love this tread, i'm picky with my fragrance, as many others here, so most really sweet, hyper gourmand fragrances make me gag most times, but there are some that are worst that others that would haunt my nose for the whole day.

Fat electrician
for sure i love a nice story but this was vile to me

Dawn Whispers was the worst of all, harsh ozone and milk, ew , it smelled rotten

Lignum Vitae too, the sweet and savory just did not work here for me

1

Synthetic Nature made me feel physically ill.

Kalan the green pepper note grossed me out.

Eros Flame was sickeningly sweet on top of being insultingly generic.

0

1 Million Parfum was a rough one for me. There have been other stankers, but this one stands out.

P.S. Can someone tell me how to "link" a product?
Thanks!

P.S. Can someone tell me how to "link" a product?

Type a # and then the name afterwards, no spaces inbetween! A drop-down menu should show up where you can select a fragrance.

Secretions Magnifiques is frequently described by fragrance enthusiasts as one of the hardest perfumes to enjoy because of its unusual metallic and body-inspired accords, though some appreciate it as an artistic creation rather than an everyday fragrance.

(I have no idea how to add pictures with the links for each perfume on here, so bear with me).

@axewound
Use the hashtag # then with no space start writing the name or brand name of a fragrance and you will see them. I will add a photo to show you. Scroll to the bottom of my reply .

Versace pour Homme Dylan Blue Eau de Toilette

and as you can see I taped the option for Dylan Blue and now it is here in the post.

——————————————

Ok now for my choices

"Asad / أسد | Lattafa / لطافة" is something I just can’t wear very often

Boss Man Eau de Toilette has this chemical in it that smells a bit like a kid has eaten too much orange sherbet and been sick but after a while it does vanish and starts to be alright

Lao Oud Extrait de Parfum which I smelled the other day and to me smells like this farm institution where I used to go play as a kid, and to me it smells like a mix of sheep, cow and lama poop mixed with wet hay and other unpleasant things found on a farm. I mean it would be great for nostalgia reasons but I would not spend hundreds of £ to smell like that by spraying it on me 😆

Another is Alexandria II Parfum which reminded me of a dirty nappy/diaper that had had some talcum powder thrown on it when I first smelled it. It took way too long for that smell to vanish and the dry down to come for me to enjoy it. I like Oud fragrances especially from Aaron Terrence Hughes but this was just 🤢 If the dry down came quicker I would really like this.

Photo for @axewound …..

I am going to add this post a few I have recently tested.

1 Million Black
&.
Invictus Elixir

Both have this horrible smell in them. I don’t know why they are making those 2 lines similar as one is usually fresh and the other heavy and sweet but PR have got some chemical they are using in both those fragrances that smell hideous to me

Another i really couldn’t stand was Asad Zanzibar and Vanilla Sex Eau de Parfum both had me go straight to a public 🚾 to try and scrub 🧼 them off ASAP 🤮 These are the first fragrances that ever got that kind of reaction from me

As for the chemical in the 2 Rabanne fragrances i really hope this is not the change we were warned about last year that we should back up fragrances we love with certain notes as they will soon be banned as it is very strange that like I mentioned above the 2 frags from very different lines have the same smell in both.

I purchase several samples to test each week and quite often I'll look for ones that are either outside or on the edge of my comfort zone, as it helps me better determine what my tastes are. Inevitably, exploring the edges like this often means I experience fragrances that I dislike, and now and then ones I absolutely hate.

Some, such as ...

Black Orchid Eau de Parfum

and

Black Afgano Extrait de Parfum

I had a fairly good idea that I'd dislike before buying. I do hate Black Orchid, it's just far too sweet for my taste. Black Afgano, on the other hand, doesn't go on the hate list but I do dislike it.

I can accept my hatred and dislike of those two above, because I didn't have high expectations of them to begin with. Where I do get annoyed is with the ones where the notes and accords look a good fit, but turn out not to be. There is a particular group of fragrances that seem to be generally well liked, but there is something in them that I perceive as having a sour milk / fox spray note. I get this from quite a few fragrances, but usually it's not extreme. However, in these it is overpowering to me ...

masculin Pluriel

Gentle Fluidity (Silver)

Santal Volcanique

At first I thought it may be Ambroxan, but then there are other fragrances that contain that I do not have a problem with, so narrowing it down further, I now think it's modern amber-wood aroma chemicals combined with musk. I'm not absolutely certain it is that, but that's the best I can come up with at present.

And then there are the insipid fragrances, that I just find weak and uninspiring, such as ...

Ginger Biscuit

I cannot say it is horrible, but to me it has a milky, instant coffee vibe that just leaves me flat. Quite honestly, I'd rather smell something like ...

Sécrétions Magnifiques

because at least then I know my nose has been given a workout.

I tested Izia the other day and I hated it!! Rose is already difficult for me, but warmed up by amber?? Smelled very unbalanced to my nose..
