Perfumes You've Decluttered

Perfumes You've Decluttered 0

As per the topic title, what are the perfumes you have decluttered - be it gifted, sold (or even thrown out😧)?

Was there a specific reason you decluttered them?

How long were they in your collection?

Do you often declutter your collection?

And anything else related to the topic 😀

I gave Amarige Eau de Toilette away because it just didn't suit me at all.

There will be many I will give away as well, probably to a second hand shop, but I'll ask friends and family first

It's a hell of a job to mention them all, but to sum it all up: those were all blind buys which should be a warning to everyone who intends to blind buy: Please, don't Smile!

It is easier for me to mention the ones I will never declutter Smile

1

I usually give them away, they were poor blindbuys most of the time:

Nisean absolutely f'ing hated it, I had high hopes for another Parfums de Marley but this was too mature, resineous and dry to me. My dad liked it though, I gave it away in a heartbeat.

Instant Crush and Soleil Blanc Eau de Parfum were way to feminine to me. Also Instant Crush was an assault to the nostrils, that stuff should come with a hazard warning. I passed that DEFCON 1 on to my mother. Smells good on her though.

First Instinct Man Eau de Toilette too juvenile to me. It suited my nephew better.

The only one I've ever thrown away was A*Men Pure Malt , I couldn't make anyone happy with and I find it the worst perfume I've ever put my nose on.

1

This year I have away:

Sunshine Woman bc I can’t stand the Note of powdery almonds.

Laundry Day bc my dearest friend was looking for a perfume that smelled like freshly washed clothes.

Coromandel Eau de Parfum I thought it fitted the personality of a Person perfectly. BUT she didn’t like it at all so the bottle came back to me without the box.

Belle bc my friend loved it so much so on Impulse I gave it away.

Grand Soir Eau de Parfum bc I think it smells too „masculine“ on me.

For the same reason I tried to give away Oud Wood Eau de Parfum to someone but they didn’t line it.
Dahab bc my friend loved it way more than i did.

Someone, somewhere was looking for Viva La Juicy Gold Couture, and it's maybe like a 6/10 for me (at most), so I surprised the person with it.

I've definitely gifted more perfumes than I've retained overall (though I still have a metric butt ton). Mostly to friends and family, but occasionally I'll ship one to folks online. On another website I've had messages from folks asking for me to sell things, or simply gift them, I've obliged more than I haven't.

Currently, I only have maybe a couple that I would want to part with and I feel that this stage of my perfume journey is coming to a close. Ironically, as soon as I join Parfumo which is complete with an actual Souk...which I probably won't utilize (but it's a lovely feature).

My reasoning is that, as cliché as it is, there have been many fragrances that I wouldn't miss (and haven't). Only maybe 3 out of nearly 100 have I regretted letting go of, truly. I got to experience them, and it was fun, but time goes on and it isn't infinite. It's also somewhat self-serving because I do detest *stuff* and want to reduce volume anyway, so it's been a relief more than anything.

3

Thank god I don't really do that anymore 😅🙏 Almost every single time when I have decluttered in the past, I have regretted it and bought the perfume back later. Perfumes represent for example good memories and nostalgia for me so when I want to travel back to certain memories, I need the fragrance. Thus there are several fragrances in my collection that I crave only in very specific situations, and that situation can occur once in 5 years or something, but when it does, I want that the perfume is available, especially nowadays when pretty much everything gets discontinued all the time, I won't take the risk of losing a love. So the only way I usually "declutter" something that I don't wear too often is to give the fragrance either to my mum's or my husband's collection (both love fragrances). Then I know that if I need the fragrance at some point in the future, it will be available, however if my mum or husband enjoys the fragrance more and wears it more often, the fragrance gets the love that it deserves instead of just sitting in my shelf collecting dust. So quite recently my mum fell in love with Jardin à New York so I gave that to her shelf. I've also given Ambre Noir, Baptême du Feu, Eternity for Men Eau de Toilette, Solano, Porto Bello, Traversée du Bosphore, Signature Eau de Parfum, Signature II Eau de Parfum, Polo Red Extreme, Uomo Eau de Toilette and Rochas Man Eau de Toilette to my husband's collection as he prefers to wear all of those waaaaayyyy more often than I.

Fantasy Intimate Edition I love this fragrance but it started to "not feel like me." Also the chunky bottle kept taking up too much space and it was getting on my nerves lol.
Lavender on the Rocks Solely because the atomizer was getting on my nerves, it did like... those jet blasts.
Club Black Eau de Toilette Good fragrance but I think the bergamont comes thru real strong on my skin and the mix of that and the vanilla on my skin gives it a lil bit of a sour smell lol.
Intense Cafe A bit too sweet for me. Did make me realize I love rose though, but more of a dark, spicy rose.

In the process of decluttering/selling about 2/3s of my collection (I have a "for sale" shelf if anyone is interested). Mainly because I want to make my collection more focused and curated, and also getting rid of some of my wife's least favorites that I don't really wear as a result.

Because I buy perfumes semi-regularly, there's obviously a chance I will declutter it early on after purchasing or after some time due to not really wearing it as much as others.

Jungle Fantasy - I decluttered this days after purchasing it because I initially liked it in store, but it did not suit my skin at all in the end. It smells too light and watery, in my opinion. My sister, however, was more than happy to take it off my hands.

Fantasy Sheer - Yet another Britney perfume that I liked initially in store but did not work well on me at all in the end. I found the scent itself quite unappealing as time went on, too.

Fantasy Eau de Parfum - Luckily it was travel size, but I swear, the Britney Spears line of perfumes just do not like me whatsoever. I have pretty much given up on them at this point.

Mod Blush Eau de Parfum - I got this as a miniature to try out and sadly, it is another one that does not suit me whatsoever, so my youngest sister took it off my hands. It's alright, it just does not suit me at all.

Sweet Tooth Me Espresso Eau de Parfum - I liked the body mist for this scent, but the perfume is a whole other kettle of fish. I really don't like that opening coffee note because on me, it's strong. It makes me gag, though the dry down is pretty nice.

Cosmic Kylie Jenner Eau de Parfum - I actually really like this scent. It's beautiful, easy to wear and works for a lot of people, however I was not reaching for it as much as I was reaching for other perfumes, so I decluttered it to my sister who wears it daily. She has almost finished it, in fact.

Deep Night - I used to love this perfume but for some reason it no longer sits well on my skin, so I decluttered a near-new bottle to my youngest sister as she really likes the scent, too.

I have definitely decluttered many a tester versions to my sister as well (Fleur Majesty Rose Royale | 31 is one of them, which is just horrible, in my opinion) and a few dupes as well. I'm just glad I have family to give them to!

Wow, you've used up 10 bottles in 2025? I haven't probably used up 10 bottles during my whole lifetime 😂 May I ask how big the bottles were and did you buy them this year too or had you started using them already a long time ago? How many times you are normally spraying on and did you use them to wear only or also as air fresheners etc.? Sorry for lots of questions but it's just such a rare occasion to me to actually finish a bottle (I do that probably once or twice in 10 years) so I'm curious to know how other people are doing it. I'm also curious because I read you disliking/hating some of the perfumes you used up so did you wear them anyway or just used for other purposes like spraying in the air, or was it probably that you liked them at first but then got fed up with them when wearing them too often or something.

I love questions, so happy to answer hehe.

Everything I finished this year had been in my wardrobe for years, it just happened that 2025 is the year they ran out. The only exception is Delina Exclusif because I use up a bottle a year since it's easy reach for all occasions. A lot of the times I'm making a conscious effort to use up certain fragrances to evaluate if I need to rebuy or completely move on from them. Most of my bottles are 50 - 100ml.

As for spraying, I'm average - I spray as the spirit leads while trying not to overdo it 😅. I don't usually reapply perfume, but I'll switch out my perfume in the evening so I typically use 2 perfumes daily. The only ones I used as room spray were Dahaab Saafi, Khamrah and Twilight Body Spray. The rest were worn as body fragrance. Some of the perfumes I finished like Ani Extrait de Parfum are because once I start wearing them, it can be weeks before I put them down. That makes a significant dent. Things like Vanille West Indies are because I layered with them (easy as a straightforward vanilla) to finish them quicker.

Thanks a million for your lovely reply! 🤗💕 This was so interesting to read. Now it actually makes a lot more sense, I was thinking how much a person has to spray in order to finish 10 full bottles in 11 months but of course if they're only half full that doesn't need too many sprays then. 👍 I also wear 2 different perfumes a day sometimes, it depends on when I'm taking my shower. I have this "super skin" that if I don't shower (and sometimes even if I do 😂), almost any fragrance sticks on my skin for so many hours that I can't spray another if I don't want to do layering. My husband's skin is the opposite so on him majority of the fragrances have vanished before evening so he is wearing 2 fragrances a day more often than me.
